About
Hi Lessons.com! Because of some difficult experiences on this platform (like with online scammers!) I am only looking for students nearby geographically who have contacted a small number of teachers. You also must already have a keyboard or piano for piano lessons. I will not be able to accept messages or leads from people out of the area or those who have reached out to many teachers, sorry! Please send a direct message with my name in it so I know you have read my profile. If you would like to meet me for a highly discounted intro lesson, I will be more than happy to discuss lessons with you/your child. I offer a discounted 30 minute intro lesson for $30. Feel free to email, text, or chat on the phone with any questions prior to booking.

I am a working performing artist in multiple genres, with twenty years of voice teaching experience, and ten years of piano teaching.
I believe it is essential that teachers keep their “head in the game” by continuing to put themselves out there as performers, so they never lose touch with the industry or the perspective and demands of being a performer. To me, that combined with a collaborative attitude towards students is what makes a great teacher.
I have an excellent ear and provide diction coaching far beyond the typical set of languages. As a former ESL teacher and tutor in Spain, I also help ESL singers with English. I read and teach IPA (international phonetic alphabet).
A student of yoga and dance (ballet, musical theatre, latin) since 2004, my teaching of posture, breathwork, and movement is uniquely informed by these kinesthetic arts. My lessons contain an emphasis on mindfulness, body awareness, and physical fluidity in training students. I am also experienced in and happy to work with students with physical and developmental disabilities.
I most enjoy helping people reach their goals and helping them discover new talents and abilities they never knew they had. Seeing growth and change as the result of students' hard work under my guidance is one of the most rewarding things in life for me as a teacher and artist. It's amazing to me how gaining greater knowledge, strength and facility in the music you're passionate about can also help you find greater confidence and happiness in other areas of life too!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get a sense of your musical background and experiences first, via email, phone or in the first lesson. I am also interested in your general performing arts background. I want to customize the process to your areas of knowledge, so even having taken speech class, or knowing pilates, or playing sports, for example, can help us parlay those skills into tools for learning singing and piano. I like to have you bring in a song or piece you know well so I can see where you're at, and also a tune you'd like to work up to. I like to quickly also reccomend some music in my library for you to work on as a growth tool.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelor's degree in Musicology from UCLA, graduated "cum laude" with Highest Departmental Honors. Honor's Thesis on Edvard Grieg's Slåtter op. 72. Sang in Awaken Acapella (Sara Barailles' group at UCLA, she auditioned singers the year I was accepted), the UCLA chorale, chamber singers, conducting ensemble, and the Balkan Choir. Also performed in musicals and operas, premiered solo works by new composers, and performed in Rennaisance/baroque groups. Performed at the Dolby Theatre and Disney Hall with Los Angeles choral groups.
Master's Degree in Voice Performance from San Jose State University. Won the annual concerto competition and performed a ten minute piece with orchestra. Received a grant from the Santa Cruz Scandinavian group to put on five solo recitals with a pianist in San Jose and Santa Cruz. Selected to perform as a soloist with the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra, National Anthem soloist at commencement. Also starred as Maria Rainer in the Sound of Music and Marian the Librarian in The Music Man.

How did you get started teaching?
My mom was a music teacher, and I started working with her piano/choir students when I was a teenager. I started teaching private voice lessons during my last year at UCLA when colleagues began referring people to me.
