About this pro

I have been sewing for over 20 years and i have a bachelors degree in Fashion Design. I enjoy working with different types of fabrics creating different garments like dresses, skirts, tops and accessories as well as using stretchy fabrics making body suits and sports wear.

During my past experience i have taught kids hand sewing classes and also adults helping them learn their basics. I undertand people learn differently and some require more basic techniques.

This is a link to my work: IG: @veterancouture

I make all the garments and accessories on most of my designs ;)

I enjoy the process of creating something from scratch, from the fabric selection, creating the patterns to cutting the fabrics and sewing the garment.

Also seeing my studens grow is a key factor in my career as a fashion designer.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I usually do an assesment to identify their skill level and also talk about what is the ultimate goal.

The purpose of this is to be able to develop a plan where my students can work on their learning process step by step until they are ready for new projects.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

If its a local student within 5 miles from my resident i only charge $30 per hour. if its outside more than that i charge $40+

How did you get started teaching?

When i was in school i used to help my classmates with their sewing projects. After i graduated school i started teaching freelance swing lessons to teenagers as a way to keep them goal oriented. Now i teach kids and adults from different skills levels.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with elementary kids, International students teenagers and adults.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I partcipated at the RAW National Arts drive on June 20th where i made some dresses and they featured one of my design on their IG page.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Find someone who has multiple skills not just sewing. That way you can learn more things at once.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What's their goal? Just learning basic sewing techniques to repair their garemtns or if they want to learn the different aspects of sewing to eventually develop their own brand or their own clothes.
