Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Some students depending on how much of this type of training they have done can come straight into a class. Our classes are only 4 people max and we work on and off equipment so instruction level is high.
Other clients need a few privates first. Usually those clients have certain issues and need time to build up strength, learn variations of exercises, or just build confidence before they can take a class.
We start with a Gyrotonic warm up so you get to start on equipment right away. I get to watch you move, teach you the breathing and the abdominal work.
Then depending on the student we get started in on the leg work and take our first session as far as we can in the hour we have together.
Group class starts the same way except the warm up might vary. We instruct while you train so that we create that balance between working on your technique and knowledge of the exercises, but also getting that feeling that you are exercising.
I also work via Zoom livestream or pre recorded sessions as well
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was a professional dancer, choreographer and artistic director of my own company for many years before I began training clients in these techniques.
I am degreed in Dance, and a Master Pilates Instructor, Yoga, and Gyrotonic Training, FRC, FRA, and Gyrokinesis .
I have over 42 years teaching experience with clients in fitness, and active rehabilitation. I also educate and certify teachers in Pilates.

How did you get started teaching?
After a career as a dancer I sort of fell into this work and it has taken on a life of its own. I am only happy to follow this momentum and share my passion for this type of work.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, all fitness types.
In 42 years of teaching I've worked with people who are paralyzed to professional surfers, volleyball players, and dancers.
I have a special place in my heart for people who are suffering from pain. I usually can help.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had a client who is partially paralyzed from a back surgery.
He had been working very hard to get movement in his feet. I wasn't sure if the work would actually improve his condition but after about 5 months of work, he actually bought a bike.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you like who you are working with.
Make sure the class sizes are small.
Clean environment with good people around you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Its great to have goals and express them to your teacher.
If you are a pain client bring in your MRI reports and as much information about your condition that you can.
Mostly, getting to know your trainer just starts out with liking the person and the enviornment.
