I find learning to be an exciting endeavor and teaching to expand people's knowledge is fulfilling to me. I have tutored college students in Math and Engineering subjects while an undergraduate at NYU and also served as an Engineering Teaching Assistant during my graduate school studies. I have experience tutoring one on one and in a class room setting, as well as experience lecturing during recitation periods to a large class of graduate level engineers at Carnegie Mellon University. I spent 7 years taking a myriad of standardized exams while I pursued a medical degree. After that, I worked at two different test prep companies teaching students how to prepare for SAT's and other prep exams while showing them how to deal with stress, how to manage time, and how to focus better using mindfulness technques.  I'm an expert at preparing students for standardized exams, especially because I approach every student at the level they meet me at. This is important, since everyone needs a different prescription to succeed.  ... View Profile

I can help students from elementary school struggling to learn concepts leading to algebra or work with a high schooler attempting to conquer geometry -- any level math from long division through pre-calculus and statistics. I'm a recent Arcadia High School graduate heading for a 5-year engineering program. Why engineering? Because I immediately look at something -- whether it is a math problem or automobile -- and figure out how it works in my head, then RE-engineer it to make it simpler and better. That's why I can tutor math, taking concepts and problems step-by- step so the student understands the mat ... View Profile

The goal is to get you the most bang for your buck, and QUICKLY get your child on the path to independence and proficiency. We were founded in 2011 by two high school teachers that were fed up with cookie cutter mandates and the limited amount of time available to offer individualization to each student. Our frustrations, however, allowed us to hone our skills in regard to moving quickly --again, we emphasize building that tutor/student rapport rapidly, as well as having the s ... View Profile

Unique College Business

William Sartor · Los Angeles, CA

I did not start out to be a teacher. Regular guy working for a living from whatever I could get. I always had a head for math and that help me get employed by Texaco in Michigan at their plant. When I move to California the first time, I became involved with manufacturing. I also met my mentor “Rob Hubbard”. For some reason until this day, I cannot figure it, he took his time to explain to me about the business. He also told me that I was selling myself short, by not going to college. He pushed me to go to school and at least get my Associates. He also signed me up for a Dale Carnage course. After working in the manufacturing industry for a while and being involved in meetings such as planning and production, I realized that an Associates wasn’t enough. I went back to school and received my Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and obtained my Master in business management.

I what love about teaching is you are assisting a human being with a change in their lives for the better. But, I realize it goes deeper than just that. I believe for every student that I am able to reach and help succeed, I am touching other people through the student. Maybe, a family, may be co-workers who are afraid to move on to a better career. When you assist the student accomplish his/her goals, despite the difficulties that they may have had to deal with, you suddenly realize that teaching is more than 1+1=2 and turn in your homework. It is an awesome responsibility, that should never be taking lightly.

When, I returned to New Jersey to marry a girl from high school, I was approached by a woman asking me if I wanted to return to school. I informed her that I had a Master’s and then she asks me if I could teach what would be the subject. I told her accounting, business and Algebra. She told me there was a position open for an accounting instructor. So, as you say that rest is history. I have been given the gift to teach and love it. I have worked with adults’ students looking for a second chance with lives. I worked with students straight out of high school and ready to learn something new. Some of my students needed a break, just being release on parole and needed a fresh start. Others students were going for their master degree in business, and bachelor degrees in hospitality and food industry. Some of my students were working toward an Associates in Paralegal and Para-accounting. I have returned to California with experiences and skills that I never thought possible. Oh yes, the girl from high school came with me. She is encouraging to tutor and or teach.

My passion for teaching is unbelievable. I have had great mentors in the industry to teach me the skills to use my gift of teaching. When I see a student, who walks into my class and looks terrified or uneasy because he may older than most of the students, or she is hates math and a mother of two, I push them succeed. When that student tells me that he or she can’t do it, I listen to all the reasons and then give them all the reasons that they can accomplish their goals. I provide tutoring after class, have gone in on Saturday to work with students. When I realize the fun in tutoring, started my own tutoring business. Nothing big, but I learned a different style of teaching. When I am teaching one-on-one, I realize that I must gain trust and breakdown fears and anxieties.

My advice to aspiring students, you must commit 110%, You must realize you will lose some friends, but that you will meet new friends with your same interest. Never, ever be afraid to ask for help. Don’t use the excuse that you had a bad teacher. We all had bad teachers, it just part of the process. Finally, don’t give up on yourself. Remember, you are the only you have to live with for a lifetime.

Sincerely,

William Sartor MBA
