Decide if you want to take a one-time workshop or a multi-week course.
Read instructor reviews on Lessons and Google.
Browse their portfolio of artwork created by their past students.

I know how to draw now! I took drawing lessons with bert a couple of months ago and could tell that they had had a lot of experience teaching drawing to people who didn’t feel confident with their skills. They had a really kind and encouraging teaching style, and exercises that were very thoughtfully paced to guide me step-by-step to developing my skills. I could see the plan from the beginning and felt confident that I’d make improvements—and I did!

I could leave a novel length review regarding how good my experience was with my first round of sessions were with Alfredo. I had absolutely no experience painting with oils prior to my classes. As our sessions went on, Alfredo created snd altered my class structure to accommodate what I needed. He didn't just teach me how to put oils on a canvas, but explained the importance of everything from the care and cleaning of your brushes, materials he recommended all the way to explaining color theory, sketching and more.
He has played an integral role in me using art and painting to finding peace and putting smiles on my face. I cant wait to see my progress in our next round of sessions. Not only is Alfredo a great instructor, but hes my mentor and my friend. Hes helped a U.S. Marine Combat Veteran find a way to push an illness aside and use art to be happy.
I hope I'm able to attach my paintings below. One is my very first completed painting and one about to be completed, and could not look anything like they do with Alfredo's guidance. They are pieces painted prior from other artists.

He is able to break almost every complex art related task down into reachable step-by-step exercises. It may seem formulaic at first, but that approach worked to quickly facilitate for me a solid understanding of perspective, figure drawing, portrait painting, and even sculpture. His critiques can seem brutally honest, but that’s an asset which also helped stimulate some rapid artistic growth for me.

I did not actually have a session with Marina but she was gracious enough to talk to me on the phone about various options I might have for creating the illustrations for a book I am working on. Anyone wanting a very qualified and talented instructor should contact her. I am only now beginning the conceptualization of my book and it will be awhile before I can visualize the kinds of illustrations I need. Thank you to Lessons.com for connecting me to Marina.

I loved the class. It was a beautiful natural setting. Very peaceful. The teacher, Lark was very sweet and helpful. I wasn't sure if I would like what I made, but in the end, I did. The other people who attended were also very nice and fun.…
