Kim G. says, "Alfredo is one of the most prodigious and skilled artists I have ever met. He makes his personal skills easy to understand and communicate and the way I have grown as an artist in the past 3 years with him is beyond anything I ever expected of myself, let alone something I ever expected an artist to be able to communicate to another person as a teachable skill. If you’re on the fence about hiring him, please do yourself a favor and do it!" Read more

Jana C. says, "I hired Jim to teach me the basics of photography as I needed some quick lessons to continue my own business. He was so kind and accommodating to my schedule, time frame and lack of knowledge in the industry. He is full of amazing knowledge and teaches it in Lemans terms to help absorb it. I would absolutely recommend him and his company for classes and photography in general! He is an amazing teacher and photographer! " Read more

As an art teacher, I use what students already know to help inspire confidence and fun, using th basic shapes, alphabet, and numbers to help bridge concepts to skills. I have taught art parties as well. I love working with both adults and children. As a professional academic tutor, I have worked with students K-7th grade on achieving thier academic goals. I work part time as a Sub teacher for SD Unified. I also work as a sub for local English as a Second Language (ESL) schools in SD. I am great with students who have mild learning disabilities or are speaking another language at home. I love seeing my students get a sense of accomplishment as...

My artistic journey is fueled by a deep appreciation for my surroundings, where I translate the ordinary into extraordinary through a lens of color and shape. I can work with a variety of mediums, including oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, and graphite, allowing us to explore the richness of texture and depth in paintings. As a self-taught artist and teacher, I explore these various mediums and themes, with a particular passion for drawing and painting, sometimes using mixed media to create unique effects. Movement and presence are central themes in art. Whether depicting the stride of a race horse, the dynamic flow of a boat on water, t

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do art classes cost near me?

Art classes cost $20 to $50 for a one-time session or $100 to $500 for a class including 6 to 10 weekly sessions. Prices for art classes depend on your location, the type of art, the school or museum offering the class, and whether the fee includes materials and art supplies. Most art instructors provide a list of the required supplies which you must purchase separately.

Can you take art classes online?

You can take art classes online through CreativeLive, Udemy, ed2go, and art specialty websites like New Masters Academy (NMA) or The Art Studio NY. Many museums, universities, studios, and individual artists also offer online art classes.

Prices for online art classes are similar to in-studio classes and primarily depend on the instructor's artistic reputation and whether the course features prerecorded videos or is held live.

What types of art classes are available?

Popular art classes offered in most locations include:

  • Drawing and sketching
  • Painting with watercolor, oil, acrylics, or pastels
  • Printmaking
  • Fabric painting
  • Ceramics
  • Sculpture
  • Jewelry making
  • Glasswork
  • Fiber arts

How do I find the best art classes near me?

Before you take the next step in your creative journey, follow these tips to ensure you find an art class that's a good fit for you:

  • First, determine what type of art you'd like to learn.
  • Decide if you want to take a one-time workshop or a multi-week course.
  • Read instructor reviews on Lessons and Google.
  • Browse their portfolio of artwork created by their past students.
  • Ask about fees, class sizes, and supplies needed.
  • Visit the studio or classroom in person to check it out before signing up for a class.
  • Wear clothes that can get dirty. Some classes have aprons, but you may still get paint or other art products on your clothes.

What questions should I ask before signing up for art classes?

Before you sign up for an art class, be sure to ask the instructor these questions:

  • Which class should I take as a first-time art student?
  • Does the fee include materials and supplies? If not, do you provide a supply list?
  • What subjects do the art lessons cover?
  • Where will the class meet?
  • Are the classes restricted to certain age groups?
  • How many students will be in the class?
  • Do you offer online art classes? Are the online classes taught live or prerecorded?
  • Can I buy a class as a gift for someone?

I could leave a novel length review regarding how good my experience was with my first round of sessions were with Alfredo. I had absolutely no experience painting with oils prior to my classes. As our sessions went on, Alfredo created snd altered my class structure to accommodate what I needed. He didn't just teach me how to put oils on a canvas, but explained the importance of everything from the care and cleaning of your brushes, materials he recommended all the way to explaining color theory, sketching and more. He has played an integral role in me using art and painting to finding peace and putting smiles on my face. I cant wait to see my progress in our next round of sessions. Not only is Alfredo a great instructor, but hes my mentor and my friend. Hes helped a U.S. Marine Combat Veteran find a way to push an illness aside and use art to be happy. I hope I'm able to attach my paintings below. One is my very first completed painting and one about to be completed, and could not look anything like they do with Alfredo's guidance. They are pieces painted prior from other artists.

I love working with Monica Hahn. She has a positive and encouraging attitude. Rather than tell me I’m doing something wrong she provides ideas for how to improve my photographs. She helps me focus on the big picture and the tiny details in images. I really appreciate Monica’s passion for photography and her creative way of seeing things. In a few sessions I have improved the quality of my images and greatly enhanced my editing skills....and I’m getting positive comments about my images on Social Media.
