About
I teach ONLINE classes in NIA Technique holistic dance fitness. NIA stands for "Now I Am' - it builds fitness and mindfulness at the same time by encouraging you to sense your body while moving, being here now in the present moment. Fun, easy choreography to beautiful, inspiring world music. Great cardio, yet easy on the joints. Perfect for people who are interested in self and consciousness as well as fitness.
I am an exceptional online teacher. I am completely comfortable on camera and make real contact with you through the lens. I keep you engaged for the whole hour, and teach in a way that helps you receive all of the benefits of NIA even though we're not in person.
My classes in 2023 are focused on delivering the Mental Health benefits of NIA alongside the physical. Read about my year-long drop-in-anytime program here: https://www.paulachambers.me/blog/nia-dance-mental-health

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
New students are encouraged to visit my website first to learn more about me and what I do. If they like what they see, great, they can book their first class right there on the site. If they have questions, they email me and I gladly answer them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a Second Degree BlackBelt in Nia, I have taken all of the Nia teacher trainings that exist. I also have training in Franklin Method, Trauma Informed Movement Teaching, Anatomy Trains in Motion, and Anti-Racisom for Wellness Professionals. Less obviously, my PhD in English and years of experience teaching English Composition and presenting to large audiences helps me be an effective teacher and presenter of Nia.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Your first class is free. After that, you can pay $15 per class or save by buying a package. The most affordable package is 10 classes for $99. I also have a scholarship program: you can get the discount you need by helping me bring in new students.
How did you get started teaching?
I started taking Nia as a student in 2010 and it changed my life. Five years later, I took the teacher training (which was totally amazing) and became a teacher. I continued taking trainings while gaining experience teaching 3 in-person classes a week in the LA area. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I took my classes online for the first time and loved it even more!
What types of students have you worked with?
Ages 20-75, all genders, all fitness levels. I have worked with those recovering from grief, trauma, illness and injuries; people just beginning to get on their feet after years of inactivity; and others who are already reasonably fit and just love to move.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently taught a special Nia class with a "Self Mothering" theme, on Mother's Day, honoring the feelings of those whose mothers are either absent or unable to meet all of their emotional needs. I created a special playlist designed to help participants use movement to provide themselves with whatever they never got from their mothers. It was beautiful.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Nia teachers have a lot of leeway to make their classes their own. Each teacher is a unique person and that's OK. BUT, they must follow certain key practices or else it is not Nia. The teacher must set a focus and intent at the start of every class, adhere to the seven-part structure of a Nia class, use Nia licensed music, and teach in a way that makes all body types and fitness levels feel safe and included. Nia teachers learn all of that in the teacher trainings. If you find a Nia teacher who fails to follow those basic principles, it is OK to stay with them if their classes really work for you - just know they are not really the best example of Nia.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Before booking, assess the space you have to dance in. Do you have about 60 square feet or more? If so, GOOD, that is enough to do Nia with me!
Next think about your schedule. Whih days would you most like to dance? That will help you choose which classes to book. Remember, when you book a class, you can dance it live OR dance to the recording which lasts 24hrs after the class.
