About

I have been a professional musican for 30 years and travelled to around 35 countries to perform music. My teaching has brought me to Russia UK Japan Australia and the US... I have given Masterclasses in all these countries.

Many teachers out there may offer low cost lessons, but as a student you should ask yourself are they qualified, and the best teacher for you... In many cases, I have taught a large number of the local Instructors, and I have also taught working pros both here and abroad who are now touring stadiums and are known on the international scene.

Secondly, I have also been featured numerous times in Bass Player magazine, Bass Guitar Magazine, notreble.com, talkbass.com and scottsbasslessons.com.

In addition I have been and continue to be a Pro level endorser with some of the biggest and most innovative bass related companies around.

I also am a columnist for notreble.com and regularly give Masterclasses/Bass Clinics at both Los Angeles College of Music and The Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA.

I am also part of the Pro Faculty at scottsbasslessons.com -and have given numerous seminars and also am the author of a number of featured courses including ones on Jazz Improvisation and technique development...

Past students have studied with me have included bassists for Jamiroquai George Michael Beth Orton Primal Scream and even a current member of The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra!

If you are serious about studying and wish to really boost your playing to a serious level, then why not try a trial lesson and see how I can give you some definite steps toward that goal.

It is enormously fulfilling helping students and spreading GOOD informative teaching across the world -that really is a pretty amazing thing to do...And I love seeing students improve over rthe course of studying with me.

Performance, education and innovation are all presented at its highest level when listening and watching Rufus. His Masterclass events at the college are quite popular with the students, as well as impressive to guests that visit our school. Rufus returns each year at least once, if not twice, and effectively demonstrates where bass can advance to and delivers his instruction and ideas in a very digestible, efficient way.
As Chair of the Bass Program at Musicians Institute in Hollywood CA, I have the fortune of complimenting our students musical and academic experience with additional clinics and Master Classes. Rufus is always included in those plans.

Rufus is the Rolls Royce of bass educators. He possesses an endless abundance of enthusiasm and musical ideals. Brilliant communicator and very engaging. I’ve had lessons with him, multiple times per week for 3 years and each and every one has been a challenge, whether it be technical work, a new performance piece or simply diving into musical territory I am not familiar with. Rufus is incredibly reliable and unlike other bassists I’ve had lessons with he is very attentive for each minute of the lesson and threads lessons seamlessly in a manner that cleverly builds towards a clear long term musical goal with you. I can’t recommend him enough.

A thorough examination of the students goals, technique, knowledge of the instrument and interests musically is examined in the first lesson. I build individual curriculum for each student but always like to help students develop good technique and knowledge of the fingerboard to help them in any musical situation.
