"Yoga is learning to still the fluctuations of the mind and find the beauty of the present moment- which ultimately helps to find inner peace and serenity. It is a practice which includes breathing techniques, meditation, and specific postures/stretches to connect the mind, body and spirit. Yoga is widely practiced for heath, wellness and relaxation which promotes presence, self-love and focus. It has proven to help with recovery, stress, anxiety and depression. The stretches help to open the body so that one can sit comfortably to access the deeper dimensions of Yoga. Yoga helps create space where residents may have been once stuck or tense. It helps to unveil the layers of protection one may have built around their heart. To appreciate and honor your body, as well as become aware of the mind and the noise it creates. To make peace with who you are. The goal is to find self-love so that you can truly love life and others. Through this meditation, residents will gain self awareness, courage, wisdom, serenity and develop healthy routines and coping skills in sobriety. Activity/Intervention: Residents participate in a 1 hour session of Mindful Yoga- including breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation (dyana), stretching poses (asana), sound healing, and essential oils. I like to find out what the students goals are and come up with a plan that meets their goals. Is yoga for relaxation or for weight lose. Is it going to be more meditative or more strength building and balance and focus. Self confidence and higher self esteem.
