Hi everyone this is Coach David with over 24 years of experience in the game as a player, trainer, & coach. Out of my 24 years I have been certified by driveline baseball for 13 of those years. I am a true believer in the activation phase of pitching which helps stabilize & prepare your players arm by conditioning the proper muscles & ligaments utilized in the pitch delivery. I also use recovery techniques so your player is able to recover properly as well as faster after throwing. With this knowledge I bring several drills that effectively target trouble spots in your pitches mechanics that have been proven to work through analytics. One thi...

Your Baseball Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do private baseball lessons cost?

Private baseball lessons cost $50 to $75 per 30-minute lesson and $80 to $140 per 1-hour lesson. The price depends on your location, the instructor's experience and reputation, the student's age, and whether the lesson includes extras like a video analysis of the player's performance.

Many coaches offer lower prices per lesson if you purchase a package that includes 6 or 10 lessons. The average package prices are:

  • 6 pack of 30-minute lessons: $270 – $420
  • 6 pack of 1-hour lessons: $450 – $720
  • 10 pack of 30-minute lessons: $400 – $600
  • 10 pack of 1-hour lessons: $700 – $1,100

Are private baseball lessons worth it?

Private baseball lessons may be worth it if your child currently plays the sport, loves it, and has expressed an interest in improving their skills and performance. Private lessons can help your child advance their skills, develop good habits, and avoid forming bad habits.

Motivation and a drive to improve are key factors in whether or not the lessons will actually help your child. It's important for your child to practice in between private lessons.

Children who receive private baseball lessons are usually more likely to advance to playing at higher levels than children who only receive group coaching during regular team practice. However private lessons don't guarantee your child will play collegiate or professional baseball.

What is the difference between private and semi-private baseball lessons?

In a private baseball lesson, the athlete trains one-on-one with an instructor who tailors the lesson specifically to their needs and skill level. In a semi-private lesson, two athletes work together with one instructor. Semi-private lessons, also called partner lessons, typically cost 10% to 20% less than private lessons. However, because the trainer's attention is divided between the two athletes, the athletes don't get the same level of individualized instruction as they would in a private lesson.

What age should you start pitching lessons?

Baseball instructors generally recommend that children start pitching lessons at around 8 to 12 years old, though there are no age requirements or exact rules. Learning fundamental pitching skills early on can help your child avoid developing bad habits that will be difficult for them to break later.

However, your child should not start taking pitching lessons until they are comfortable throwing the ball as well as catching the ball one-handed.

Coach Fox has been an excellent pitching coach. After working with him for two months, my 12 year old has made amazing progress. Coach Fox is very patient and knows how to maximize the potential of each player. He taught my son the proper mechanics of pitching in small segments that were easy for a 12 year old to learn and retain. I love seeing the improvement in my child's ability and confidence from week to week. I'm excited to see what the future may hold as we continue with the lessons. I highly recommend Coach Fox to anyone looking to help their child become a better pitcher.

Jason introduced my son to baseball. He was 5 years old, very active, without any knowledge of the game. Coach Jason was willing to take him on regardless. He had never worked with a child younger than 6 and he revised his strategies constantly to find a way to break things down for my son. He keeps the practice moving the full hour incorporating all skills. His patience is like nothing I have ever seen. Everyday I thought he would tell me my son was too young for an hour lesson, except he would just smile and say, “I think he’s having fun.” I have observed him in sessions with other players and his care for them is genuine. He follows up with them from week to week and the kids can tell he cares. This has been a great experience and I would give Coach Jason the highest recommendation.
