What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Defining their personal goals , small project, future hobbiest, or grand designer. Then we break down goals into achievable projects, understanding importance of working on basic hand sewing techniques needed for construction, costs of projects, affordability, and begin executing the magic one stitch at a time.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Twenty years of costume passion, ten years as an educator, over 2.5 years working full time selling fabrics and sewing notions, skill set is sewing home decor, children's costumes, and apparel with beginner level knitting skills as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$25 an hour 2 lessons a week and a project is the optimal formula for success , retention of knowledge. Therefore, pricing discounts given for students who adhere to the learning.
First 3 lessons are 1.5 hours at the flat rate of $30 regardless of frequency.
after 3 lessons, students will choose 1 lesson a week or 2 lessons a week plan.
$35 an hour for "once a week" lesson plan
$25 an hour for "twice or more" lesson plan
48 hour cancelation notification is expected.
Students are dropped after 2 succeeding cancelations, if not rescheduled within the week. ( a physical health issue/ illness is not considered a cancellation and a makeup session is allowed)
Continuity being necessary for the skills to stick and teacher's time ( which includes drive time lesson prep time not wasted.
How did you get started teaching?
I have taught dancing since the age of 15, was a professional ballroom dance instructor in my twenties, teaching sewing is just a different type of movement in my opinion - motor skills and execution. I am 47 years old, mother of two adults.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught deaf, handicapped, and persons from all ages and abilities.
