Sun Wukong Kung Fu Academy
About
Here at Sun Wukong Academy we teach Shaolin Kung Fu and Kickboxing.
We take a modern perspective towards kung fu, nothing fancy, less form more function.
In our school we focus on self defense and developing the spirit of the martial artist. As it is a martial art we do have forms and weapons that we teach in the traditional way.
About me:
I started martial arts at the age of 8yrs old with my uncle Raymond. He taught me Zen Kempo. At the age of 15yrs old I received my black belt. Through out my long and difficult journey I've meet many masters and students. Two stand out more than most Lana Li Yan Fen who trained me in the art of Choy Lee Fut she trained under Liang nai Zhao and Fu Eng Shung who was trained by a master in song family Xing yi Quan.
I'm passionate about Kung Fu, because, to me, it has everything a student would want in a stand up striking martial art. It has characteristics of the five animals of shaolin, but it's more of a scientific approach. It has unique skills similar to western boxing and muay Thai, but also adds a new set of skills like for example the Da Choy or Spinning back fist and the sau Choy or sweeping arc hook punch.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I mostly base what is taught off a students goals. Talk to them and See what their goals are.
If it's self defense, we focus on that aspect, which means drills and pressured sparring.
If the goal is to learn an art or culture, then we teach Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu. This means forms, customs, weapons, and history.
If the goal is to learn to better themselves, then I teach them both aspects. A student can learn both, but it all comes down to what they want to learn.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've done martial arts since I was 8yrs old. I have a black belt in Kempo. I'm certified to teach both Shaolin Kung Fu and Kickboxing. All these are, to me, is a certification to learn. I will continue to learn to make both of these amazing martial arts better, I seek perfection in my arts.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

List goes on and on.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Training kids at the catholic charities family support center, seeing them develop and going on to do good things.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask questions, keep an open mind, if you're asking for self-defense make sure the person who is teaching you has had to defend themselves. I myself have worked security in a violent area and have had to defend myself and others.
If it's spiritual development or personal development, study under someone who pushes you to be the best version of yourself.
