Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Lessons are taylored to each student. The first lesson is generally an assessment of the student's musical background, as well as personal goals relating to the instrument. From there, each lesson is designed to target specific musical fundamentals required to achieve those goals over time.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been a musician since early childhood. My parents performed and recorded professionally, and I first picked up the guitar at around 8 years old.
I took private lessons off and on through my teen years, started several garage bands and studied percussion in middle school and high school.
After graduating High School in 2003, I enrolled in a music program at Fullerton College in Southern California, where I studied jazz guitar, music theory and ear training, and recording engineering until summer 2005.
From 2004-2010, I performed in dozens of projects throughout Southern California. I performed jazz, hip hop, reggae, rock and roll, funk, folk, pop and more. During that time I continued to study independently and occasionally took private lessons with some of the areas best musicians from a range of disciplines including pianists, percussionists and guitarists.
From 2005-2010 I taught private guitar lessons at a teaching studio in Brea, CA. My roster included over 40 students from age 7 to 70.
In December 2010, I took a gig as lead guitarist for a rock and roll tap dance production which toured throughout China for 10 weeks.
In 2011 I relocated to San Francisco and started a project with Bay Area songwriter Maria Quiles, called Quiles & Cloud (http://quilesandcloud.com). Between 2011 to 2017, Quiles & Cloud performed over 400 shows in 38 states and recorded 3 studio albums, including "Shake Me Now" produced by Grammy award winner Alison Brown and released on Compass Records in 2017.
I now reside in Santa Cruz, CA and am involved in a project called Echoes & Artifacts (http://echoesandartifacts.com), as well as multiple collaborations around the Bay Area.
