Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
the foundation of the way of working is Meisner based.
we start with a moment to moment exercise then learn how to make specific relationships, circumstances, objectives doing improvisation.
we then learn to break down material into moments, beats and actions which we then bring to scene work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied with Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler and my mother, Janet Alhanti.
I have worked as an actress with John Cassavetes, Walter Hill, James Burrows to name a few.
I have co written and directed an award winning feature film.

How did you get started teaching?
I grew up in the business. My mother was studying with Philip Burton and Sanford Meisner when I was a little girl. I started acting after I watched Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor do readings of poetry, rhetoric and verse in a very intimate theatre space in Manhattan. I moved to Hollywood and worked in theatre and TV and film. At the request of an actress who was auditioning for a role in Dallas, I coached her and she won the role. I have been coaching and teaching ever since.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with up and coming actors, children and film and television celebrities. I give the studen the tools to be the best they can be, I teach them how to work and when they land the job, I help them to be specific in their choices.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
See who they are, how they work and if it feels right for you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do they teach technique? What is it? Many actors want to jump into a scene class or cold reading class, you must know how to work before you do that. Learn a way of working that works for you.
