About

Physical fitness has always been a passion and priority of mine ever since childhood. At the ripe age of four, I remember playing basketball at the local park and had already begun pushing myself to surpass all physical fitness tests in elementary school. However, I pursued a career in education and spent the first 10 years of my professional life working in higher education administration and college student support services. I have experience working in a variety of departments ranging from college student admissions to diversity services to career counseling to university housing.

After purposeful reflection, I uncovered the words that adequately describe my life mission: “helping people help themselves.” During the first part of my professional career it came in the form of helping college students be their best selves and make the most out of their educational experiences. However, in 2013, I decided to switch gears and shift from higher education to my other passion—fitness. I pursued and earned certification as a Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and a second certification as a Spinning® Instructor via Mad Dogg Athletics. After shadowing and being mentored by longstanding and successful veteran trainers, I decided to jump full throttle into the fitness industry with the emergence of my business, C.E.b. Fitness & Wellness in June 2014.

I am deeply committed to learning and teaching others about fitness, helping people be their best selves, and promoting an active lifestyle as both an individual and as a member of a larger community. C.E.b. Fitness & Wellness is me, and it is my hope, that it is also you. We transcend traditional thoughts about fitness and interlace fitness of the body, fitness of the mind through education, and fitness in our communities—as each of us is responsible for taking an active role in moving our communities forward.

I hold a bachelor’s in African and African American studies at the University of Virginia, a master’s in higher education administration and leadership at The Pennsylvania State University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

I truly enjoy getting to know my clients and pushing them to new (and safe) limits. It is rewarding to hear clients acknowledge improvement in their balance, strength, mobility, and confidence. It is very humbling and rewarding to be a part of such a vulnerable, challenging, and rewarding space. I also enjoy the challenge of modifying workouts to meet clients' everchanging physical abilities and personal goals.

Frequently asked questions

First, I have clients compelte a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire online. Second, I conduct a 1-on-1 consultation to get to know potential new clients to determine if we are a good fit for each other. From here, I determine whether I can meet a client's fitness and wellness needs or if I need to refer them to another professional with expertise in a different area. Third, I develop a specific training and/or accountability services agreement that meets the client's needs (goals, services, payment, training dates) and a liability waiver is signed. Lastly, client's first training session includes a few fitness assessments to determine our starting point for personal training sessions.
