Suzanne Mariska, Yoga And Pilates Based Personal Training
About
I help people over the age of 50 take control of their health and feel their very best.
You probably know that exercise helps you achieve a healthy weight. Did you know it can also help you stand up taller, prevent or decrease pain and neuropathy, protect bone density, improve digestion, and sleep better?
I set my clients up with a program that fits their lifestyle and needs, so they can maintain their results for a lifetime. My training style is personable and positive, and we try to have a little fun along the way! Exercise may not always be easy, but it shouldn't feel like torture either. I believe exercise can feel good and be a sustainable part of our daily lives.
I love seeing people reach their goals! My clients usually feel better immediately after working with me (because exercise releases endorphins, and mindfulness increases a sense of calm). Long term wins include being able to play on the floor with grandchildren, walking without assistance, and getting more positive results from doctor's visits.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to learn a little bit about the student's needs and goals, and if they are working with any injuries or illnesses. And I want to answer all their questions, so they can decide if working together is a good fit.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an experienced, NASM certified personal trainer and registered yoga teacher, with over 4,000 teaching hours. I have experience and training in working with older adults, pre- and post- natal clients, and people with larger bodies. I'm also an experienced 500 hour certified yoga teacher and Pilates instructor. I hold a B.A. in Spanish language and literature from Colorado State University.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I use a sliding scale system for my private sessions, so clients can pay what they are able:
Single session - $70
10 class pack - $600 includes home training plan
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all sorts of clients, including older adults, pregnant and post-natal women, and people with larger bodies.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A regular client of mine recently told me she went to the doctor expecting to schedule a spinal surgery. The doctor was amazed at how much stronger and more flexible her back was after training with me for 3 months, and said that surgery was no longer recommended in light of her new advancement.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone with maturity and patience who speaks honestly with you about your exercise plan. Fast results may be possible, but usually cause people to burn out and go back to their old patterns and routines. Using mindfulness and patience, we can create long-lasting results and behavior changes that make you feel better in the long-term.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
To prepare for a consultation, students can think about what they really want from their sessions. Do they want to lose weight? Move their body more easily? Improve balance or flexibility? Do they want to sleep better, feel less stressed, or manage symptoms of anxiety?
They can also share what has - or has not - worked for them in the past, and things they may like or dislike in a training program.
It's also important to share any pertinent health information, such as injuries or surgeries, or movements that are painful or contraindicated by a healthcare provider.
