About
I believe in the power of a positive learning environment. My students get to work on repertoire that motivates them, whether that be Bach or Adele. We sing, we dance, we learn to play the piano! I am patient and compassionate, coaxing the inner musician out of you.
I have a Master's of Music in piano performance, and play professionally throughout Denver. Please visit my website for more info! http://allysonkoplen.com/
Learning the piano is a fascinating process. It is so challenging, which makes it all the more rewarding to hear and feel yourself make these impossible connections. I love bearing witness and guiding you through this experience. And, on a more personal level, I know how fulfilling it can be to turn the notes on the page into the music you feel in your soul. This is something I feel the need to share with students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first few lessons are an opportunity for me to get to know you. We will find out what you know and what you don't know, and we'll talk about your goals. I have to understand your learning style and what motivates you. From here, I will develop a personalized lesson plan. I want my students to be able to read music and play by ear. The way we reach these goals totally depends on your learning style and what kind of music you like!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's of Music in piano pedagogy as well as a Master's of Music in piano performance. I have been teaching for over ten years.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching when I was in high school and realized I loved it enough to pursue it in college. The rest is history.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, all levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have an adult student with performance anxiety who recently volunteered herself for a public performance. To see a student's confidence blossom is so rewarding.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who makes you feel comfortable! Performing for your teacher can be nerve-racking. But with the right teacher, you will feel comfortable making mistakes during the lesson. That's when we can start making progress!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do I wish I could sit down and play when I'm at a party with a piano?
Why do I want to be able to play the piano?
Am I able to devote at least 30 minutes 5x per week to practicing?
