About
A Wireless Communications Engineer and Project Manager. Coach Jackson believes in the details of using proper technique/procedure when it comes to any and everything a person does. In order to elevate skill levels, specified techniques must be built into the student athlete brain/muscle memory on and off the field. Through conversation, film study, and physical workouts the student athlete will not only improve their play on the field but will more importantly become a better critical thinker. How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching/coaching while I was playing at the University of Northern Colorado. As I grew as a person I became more concerned with my teammates that didn't grow as fast mentally or physically, as the starters did. Once I retired fully from playing the game, I've found it more excited to watch the faces of my clients as they learn and experience the techniques I teach in real-life situation. Game Results.
What types of students have you worked with?
I typically work with students from ages 13 and up. I have worked with children under 13, but most of the growth spirts happen around High School. I prefer teaching students that are maturing or have matured a good deal, ensuring they're preparing for the next level of life after High School.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event I’m fond of happened in my last freshmen football game at Mountain Vista High School. I had a student/athlete that had what is referred to as the proper measurables to play safety. He wasn’t confident in his abilities at all. Throughout the season I kept telling him I was going to put him in the game because we were losing players due to injury. Well, the time came where there wasn’t a choice and he had step up. HE DID! Even though it was a painful experience because we lost the game. My student/athlete came out of that game with new found confidence and the respect of every teammate. They went from making fun of him and doubting him, to cheering him on until the end of the game. My most recent fondest memory.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice to the student athlete looking to hire a teacher/coach would be to do you due diligence. Research your instructor and see if you can find results of the instructor/coach's work. You can't give what you don't have. If the instructor/coach hasn't played the sport, what real life experiences will the instructor/coach be instilling in you, that is preparing you for the future. Be it in sports or mainly life in general.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about whether they are serious enough to do the work required to get better. Will you be prepared to work through the emotional and physical pain? Will you be able to follow instruction and take critical constructive criticism in order to improve as a player and student? Do you have other priorities that you should be pursuing? Who is your support?
