About

Hello!

I’m Jeff Schmidt and my goal is to help basketball players develop their all around skills in order to reach their full potential.

Schmidt Performance works to bring a holistic approach to basketball training by working to develop the student athlete as whole person both on and off the court. Core values including integrity, competitiveness, work ethic, honesty, and respect are at the forefront of our work. We believe that curating a meaningful relationship with student athletes will help them to better themselves, their development, their community, and their world. It is our belief that the game of basketball should be taught fundamentally in order to build strong and applicable habits. We work to provide organic, honest, and caring relationships between player and staff while providing consistent, immediate, honest, and specific feedback that leads to personal growth which allows us to serve and help lead young people to be the best versions of themselves. We strive to understand the unique needs of our athletes so that we can help to accomplish their goals.

Growing up in California, Jeff developed a passion for basketball. As a senior playing at Hoover High School in Fresno, California he was named to the 1996 All-City roster. Jeff went on to play at Fresno City Junior College and California State Monterey Bay before earning his Bachelor’s from Fresno State in 2001.

A self-proclaimed “basketball junkie,” Jeff has spent his life around the game of basketball.

Jeff is currently a K-12 educator and enjoys working with students in the classroom as he has done in California and Colorado for the past seventeen years.

For the last twenty-three years, Jeff has been coaching basketball at the high school and college level. He has spent nine years as a head coach and was named “Coach of the Year” three separate times for three separate schools while in Fresno. In addition to his sideline work in the regular season, Jeff has worked numerous camps across the country during the off-season including the Michael Jordan Flight School and the Snow Valley Basketball School which has recently been rated by Sports Illustrated as the best teaching basketball camp in the country. Jeff is also a licensed Gold Coach member of USA Basketball.

Jeff founded Schmidt Performance Basketball Training and Development in 2019 as a way to provide student-athletes with a unique, positive experience that serves and leads young people to be the best versions of themselves both on and off the court.

I get the most satisfaction in helping players reach thier goals and dreams. Jeff founded Schmidt Performance Basketball Training and Development as a way to provide student-athletes with a unique, positive experience that serves and leads young people to be the best version of themselves both on and off the court.

Jeff is a fantastic coach and mentor. He is highly skilled and knows how to work with kids on both their mental and physical basketball skills. We have seen tons of improvement in our son since he has been coaching him. He’s a different player now. We’ve been working with him for over a year. Highly recommend.

    Frequently asked questions

I want to watch a player like a hawk and see what they are good at and what they need work on. I also want to talk with the player and parent and sometimes even their coach when possible to get a really good idea of what the priorities are so that we can focus on a few things to get better at.

I ease into the workout with the player with "Hey lets try this" or "I see that this is a little off lets make a small correction". You never want to change everything about a player in the first meeting. Developing trust with a player takes time and changes with a player should be done on a gradual level.

The evaluation process when working with a player is very important. I take the extra time to watch everything that they do. I try to get a feel for what they are good & bad at. Evaluating a player on what we need to center in on is very important. I always sit down with the player at the end of the evaluation process and we make a plan of attack to focus on 2-3 priorities and layer workouts to those focus areas.
