How did you get started teaching?
It's something that I naturally gravitated toward after leading others in exercise training as a U.S. Marine and teaching martial arts to children and adults. A couple of people I knew who experienced my teaching styles suggested that I would be a good personal trainer, sowing the seed of stronger interest in the pursuit. I then focused my energies on learning the profession and I jumped into doing it full time in 2005.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience with a great range of client types. I’ve worked with those as young as 16 and as old as 83. I’ve worked with people who never stepped foot in a gym and I’ve worked with seasoned athletes. I’ve worked with those who wanted to gain muscle and I’ve worked with those who lost over 70 pounds of body fat. I’ve worked with healthy individuals and those who have numerous health challenges.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Within the last two weeks, I received this message from a client: "Thanks for helping me change my life; that is not an understatement. You helped me get in better shape than I had been since my mid-twenties" (he's in his mid-fifties). "Working out is no longer an optional activity."
And that's why I do what I do!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
