Mev Norige Artistry
About
I have drawn and painted since childhood. I was an art teacher for 37 years, and finished my last 15 years teaching AP studio art to high school students. I have extensive experience and strength teaching painting and drawing. Since retirement, I have been doing personal and commission work at a steady rate. Art is part of my identity, and where I am most at home.
Everything. It’s who I am! My days have always been filled with some type of creativity. Whether I am teaching, or away from work, I am usually engaged in some form of creative process.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Getting to know their exact level before we begin. Also, asking what their vision or expectations are, and what would they like to see accomplished in the future. What specific gains, in what area, would you like to get to??
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Ap art teacher. Taught for 37 years in public school. I have a bachelors and masters degree in art education. As an art student, I was required to take many semester hours in studio art classes, in all mediums. My strengths are in the 2- dimensional area. I.e. drawing , painting, mixed media.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have been charging 50.00 an hour. For a 2 hour slot it would be a total of 80.00. Depending apon your needs, this time can be added or adjusted. In the past, I have had students take a 2 hour lesson which allows for more “ on task” time working together.
How did you get started teaching?
College!! I decided that since I loved art so much, and enjoyed children, it was a win-win for me!
What types of students have you worked with?
Every age. I have taught kindergarten through high school. ( As a certified Ct. teacher, I had to be qualified to teach K-12. ) Since I taught in a large town in a public school system , I was able to teach a wide array of students, with varying abilities and needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
ANY time I can spend with my daughter and grandchildren. We are deeply into horses, and I love to watch my daughter ride her horse at the stables.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Obviously, look for someone who not only teaches, but can DO it too! What’s really important though, is someone who is a good communicator.Do they ask questions? Ask you to explain?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
what do you want to achieve? What are your goals? What medium do u feel most comfortable with? Is the teacher strong in this media, and knowledgeable about its capability?
