What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We find out what makes you want to learn to sew, what your goals are and any experience you have. Then we teach you from "0-60" no knowlege to sewer! Threading machine. Sewing terms. Processes and techniques. And we build skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have sewn professionally for over 30 years. I am a certified sewing instructor from the Sewing Alliance. I have an MFA in Fashion Design, and a BA in Costume Design and construction. I have worked in professional theater, alterations, custom bridal and formalwear, and children's clothing. I have helped aspiring fashion students build their portfolio and gain college acceptance. I have been teaching sewing since 2011.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching because a friend suggested I might be good. Then I feel in love with the process and started my bussiness.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with all ages. I have students who are 8yrs old and I have retired people. And all types of goals and projects; from stuffed animals to table cloths and aprons, to leggings, dresses and tailored jackets.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I absolutely love seeing a student finish a project that challeged them. Because I know they learned and grew. Matching plaid. Making a pattern alteration. Working with a difficult fabric.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would hope you would find my shop and fall in love. But mostly, I would hope you find someone you feel you can learn from.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What they hope to make/learn? How much time do they want to invest? Are they willing to take several months to grow in the skill?
