About
In 2023, at the age of 33, I had a stroke that almost took my life or could have permanently paralyzed me. I was doing some work on my house when all of a sudden my left arm went completely dead. Other than no feeling, I couldn’t move it or feel it. Then the left side of my face began to go numb followed by my leg and I was experiencing dizziness. After what felt like an eternity, my arm came back, along with my face and leg. The blood clot thankfully passed through my brain. After spending a week in the hospital, I was still in shock at what had just happened to me. For a year, I sulked, became extremely depressed, suicidal, and had a lack of motivation. I continued to eat poorly and not take care of myself, with the constant fear that the stroke would happen again. I was scared to interact with my 1-year-old daughter or hold her as I feared I would drop her. The PTSD from the stroke drove me to the darkest places I have ever been mentally.
After 1 year, in July of 2024, I had decided enough was enough and had to make a change.
I had always been an athlete growing up and wanted to get back to that condition. I began going to the gym religiously and made it my top priority. Starting out at 240 pounds, 38% body fat, I didn’t think much was possible. But 5 days a week, week after week, I started noticing small improvements to my health, mindset, and overall happiness. These kept snowballing week after week. Goals that I kept setting, I kept crushing. Before I knew it, I had to keep setting new goals, and what seemed impossible became possible. Like clockwork, I would lose 3-4% body fat per month and around 7-10 pounds.
My motivation? Asking my now 2-year-old daughter “Why does Daddy go to the gym?” And her reply “No Fat Dad”. My daily reminder.
Dialing in my diet along with consistently pushing myself in the gym led to results I didn’t think were possible. After 12 months, I weighed in at 175 pounds and 9% body fat.
