About

Whether you are someone who wants to learn how to sing, or who has already been singing for a while but needs someone knowledgable to guide you in vocal training, I am here to help! I am a professional singer and I perform nearly every day, meaning that my real world, everyday experience informs how and what I teach. As I am a lifelong musician and a naturally didactic person who is passionate about teaching, with me your success is only metered by your own willingness to excel.

I specialize in classical Byzantine psalmody. Very niche, I know, but the level of classical training that accompanies my own personal specialty gives me a unique perspective in teaching multiple vocal styles. I also play the saxophone, and have been for 16 years. I have an appreciation for all good music and an eclectic range of knowledge about everything from classical and theatre music to hip hop and rock.

I am able to teach beginning and intermediate level singers of all ages. If you or your child still need to learn how to read sheet music, I can certainly help with that. Perhaps you are having trouble with high notes? I have the solution for that as well. Maybe you just don't know where to start in terms of making real progress, and if that's the case, we'll sit down and plan out a detailed, realistic but optimistic roadmap for your musical growth.

I hope you are excited as I am about diving into the world of music performance!

Music has always been a passion of mine, and has shaped the direction of my life, even as an integral part of my faith. In performing and teaching music, I find much enjoyment. However, it is the fulfillment I get in seeing the "Ah-Ha" moment in the eyes of student who suddently "gets it," that keeps me motivated and puts a smile on my face at the end of a session.

I am a naturally didactic person, meaning I love to share what I know with others, and because of that I give a lot of thought to the way I deliver information. I am very methodical in my mode of instruction, and seeing the fruits of that labor blossom into another person's talents and hard work paid off, is one of my greatest joys in life.

    Frequently asked questions

In our first sessions we go through a series of questions to get a basic understanding of the student's knowledge and abilities in regard to the subject of the lessons, whether that be voice or saxophone. We then discuss what the student would like to accomplish in the short term, and what it would look like to begin working toward those goals. After reaching a point of knowing exactly what is ahead of us, we begin on basic exercises, which further help me to assess the student's abilities. From there, I start with a review of fundamentals to make sure the student doesn't have any bad musical habits. Finally, I equip the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage their practice time and to practice effectively in between lessons, leaving off with the first assignment.

I am a lifelong musician. I am also a professional musician, and I perform every day (Ask me to learn more). I also teach as a part of my profession. I know how to read not one, but two different forms of musical notation fluently, as if reading a book. I have near-perfect pitch. I continue learning every day.

My results speak for themselves - the proof is in the singing. Most of the students I have worked with walk out of the first session excited about the second, and most see a noticable difference after two sessions.

My standard rate is $25 per half hour, or $50 per hour. This model is to encourage students to take hour long lessons. I do offer half hours, because I know some people have very busy schedules. However, the full hour is really the minimum, in my opinion, to see the most ideal progress over time.

I used to tutor classmates of mine in band as a school aged kid, nearly 20 years ago. I did that in almost all my school years. Music has always been my strength, even when I didn't know it.

Beginners to Intermediate, as young as 6 years old, and as much as 60 years old.
