Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Student will receive a postural assessment and functional assessment when beginning Pilates work. This may require some attention to issues or injuries the client may need to discuss with instructor prior to commencing. We make revisions to exercises to suit every client's ability or challenge.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Kerry is a physical therapist who specializes in spine and orthopedic surgeries, as well as strengthening and conditioning programs to help people avoid painful surgeries. Patti is certified in GYROTONIC® and Pilates. Both Kerry and Patti are Master Instructors for Balanced Body® Education.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Prices for individual sessions are $90 each for 1 hour. Discounts for packages are available. Call to discuss.
How did you get started teaching?
Pilates became an integral part of my Physical Therapy practice in 2001. I have been advancing my knowledge and learning to create custom tailored sessions for my clients. Each client has special needs and having 30 years practice as a PT has given me plenty of experience with challenging cases!
What types of students have you worked with?
Athletes, Couch Potatoes, Pregnancy, low back pain, older clients, Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, Hip, knee, shoulder and ankle replacements. Unruly teenagers with poor posture, Scoliosis. You name it! Just no young children.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure to consider someone with a good understanding of the human body, not just knowing how to teach exercises. Everyone needs to be taught differently, depending on their fitness level, age and functional status. At Archer Pilates Studio, we understand this well.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should be committed to making positives changes in their bodies and be ready to do the work to reap the benefits. They should be well aware of their limitations, and discuss all concerns with instructor when doing their first session, and during each session as the body changes all the time!
