Amynda P. says, "To Whom It May Concern, It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Scott Emmons. I have had the privilege of knowing Scott for the past four years as my son’s guitar teacher, and would like to speak to you about the qualities that he brings as an instructor. First of all, Scott has exemplary leadership skills and has been an invaluable educator in my child’s life. He has worked diligently with my son to differentiate to his needs based on extensive depth of knowledge regarding guitar instruction, performance, music technology, and theory. Additionally, Scott is an excellent communicator. He exhibits the ability to listen to parents and students and take their thoughts and ideas to create positive learning experience. He is aware of a variety of approaches to teaching my child, and is constantly broadening his pedagogy based on best-practice. He regularly integrates this best-practice into his daily lessons, and works to keep his instruction fresh and stimulating. As a parent who is also an education professional, I am always impressed to see him differentiating and changing his ability to relay a new skill or concept on the spot to meet the needs of my child. I can confidently say that he goes that extra mile to ensure that my son feels valued and respected during his music journey. Secondly, Scott enjoys what he does and brings wonderful excitement to lessons. He makes learning music fun and relevant and that taps into the student’s interest. If you walk into one of my son’s lessons, he is making music, not standing at a music stand mindlessly plucking strings. He is engaged! He has a brilliant command of his instrument and can teach any student from beginner to well beyond advanced. Lastly, although certainly perhaps the most important, he produces amazing guitarists because he has high expectations. My son has been with Scott since he was ten years old. In the four years that Scott has been his guitar instructor, he has gone from a beginner to a well versed 14 year old guitarist who has the expertise to play with working musicians two and three times his age. Scott’s lessons have given my son the ability to play guitar all over the country with bands. He will undoubtedly pursue a career in music due to Scott’s instruction. I heartily recommend Scott, and if you have any questions at all, I am more than happy to talk with you in order to answer them. Amynda Pais Ed.S. [email protected] (305) 481-4844" Read more

Your Ukulele Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do ukulele lessons cost?

In-person ukulele lessons cost $30 to $60 per hour on average to learn with a private instructor. 1-hour group ukulele classes cost $18 to $30 per student. Some music studios offer new student specials and sell discounted multiple-session packages that reduce the cost per class.

  • Online ukulele lessons cost $10 to $30 per month for subscription-based websites offering access to pre-recorded classes. While pre-recorded lessons are not the same as a real-time instructor, some websites allow you to submit practice videos for teacher review and feedback.
  • Online ukulele lessons using live webcam video calling with a private instructor cost $25 to $60+ per hour, depending on the teacher's experience and reputation.

Keep in mind you will also need to purchase a ukulele to practice in between lessons. Most entry-level ukuleles cost $50 to $150, while higher-end models cost $200 to $500+.

Is ukulele easy to learn, and can I teach myself?

Learning to play the ukulele can be easy and fun! Ukuleles are small and only have 4 strings, making chords and scales easy to learn and play without putting too much stress on your arms, wrists, and fingers. Additionally, ukulele strings are made of soft nylon, making them easier on your fingertips than guitar strings.

You can teach yourself to play the ukulele using YouTube videos and other free resources, but this method lacks structure and may take longer to see progress than if you learn with an instructor. A professional ukulele teacher can guide you in the right direction and save you from developing unhelpful habits early on in your practice.

How long does it take to learn ukulele?

While every individual is different, in general, it takes about 3 to 6 months of consistent practice to learn and become comfortable playing the ukulele. Practicing many hours per day may yield quicker results. That said, you can likely learn enough basic chord shapes and strumming patterns to play many favorite pop songs in just a matter of weeks, or even days.

How do I choose the best ukulele lessons near me?

When searching for ukulele lessons near you, be sure to:

  • Choose a teacher or music studio that has been in business 5+ years and is licensed and insured.
  • Check out their profile and reviews from past students on Lessons.com and Google.
  • Look for a teacher who has a flexible schedule that matches your needs.
  • Discuss your specific goals and ask them how they will structure their lessons to help you meet them.

What questions should I ask when searching for ukulele lessons?

Finding a ukulele instructor whose personality and teaching style meshes well with your own can make a huge difference in your learning and progress. Asking the right questions can help you choose the best ukulele teacher for you:

  • How long have you been playing and teaching ukulele?
  • What qualifications do you have?
  • What styles of ukulele do you teach?
  • Do I need to buy a ukulele to take lessons?
  • How long will it take for me to learn to play the ukulele?
  • How often and how long should I practice?
  • What is your cancellation policy?
  • Are you running any new student specials or discounts?

Max Rodriguez 16443 SW 282nd Street Homestead, Fl 33033 786.247.3718 [email protected] 23rd of July, 2018 To whom it may concern, I have known Scott Emmons for well over two years now. He began giving my teenage son, Michael, guitar lessons at Music Depot in Florida City. When the store closed, he was able to accommodate us in his busy schedule and continued Michael’s musical education through private lessons. I can see the impact this has had on his life. He’s given him all the technical skills needed to thrive as a musician but more importantly he taught him how to love music. Scott’s passion and joy made Michael fall in love with music and start developing a relationship with it that will give him meaning for the rest of his life. While at Music Depot, I would see Scott’s students past and present having an amazing rapport with him. His discussions would range from simple concepts to advanced topics and he mastered them both. He also has excellent written and verbal communication skills with both parents and students. Scott accomplishes all these tasks with great initiative and with a positive attitude. Scott would often spend extra time with Michael, because he saw in him that eagerness to learn and was thrilled to see this and connected with him. Michael’s ability to read music, improvise and understand the theory behind each piece has grown exponentially. I recommend Scott to you without reservation. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me Sincerely, Max Rodriguez
