About
Most of our early years were spent providing services to people who are deaf in Jamaica and Peru. We provide beginner to intermediate American Sign Language classes in six week segments online. (In-person option available in Jacksonville with minimum of five (5) students paid in advance).
I get excited to see the "lights come on" when a student learns to communicate without voice! Students who excel may have an opportunity to participate in serving the Deaf Community in the US, Jamaica, or Peru.

Deaf Nations allows you to travel the world while providing much-needed resources and interpretation to those within the Deaf community. I loved being able to travel and sign/interpret alongside Gina. She helped make it a joyous experience. I was also able to develop my interpretation skills and received excellent feedback!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically, we spend the majority of the time utilizing the target language - ASL. Our process is (1) I do (2) we do (3) you do. My philosophy is "winners never quit - quitters never win" so the expection is that as long as a student does not quit, he or she will surely win!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Retired adjunct post secondary and K-12 ASL instructor. Former certified interpreter.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Six week segments online one hour per week for one-hundred twenty ($120) dollars. Individual thirty (30) minute or one hour tutoring sessions. 30 min session fee $15. One hour session $25.
How did you get started teaching?
I was asked to join the staff at a local college in Michigan.
What types of students have you worked with?
Ages 4-54, diverse ethnicities and genders.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Dolphin excursion with family.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who will not let you "get-by" but will "stretch" you to be the best you can be. A teacher who will listen to your concerns and guide you to a solution.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think through, and be honest about your level of commitment. Learning a new language is easy for some, but challenging for most. Are you able and willing to put forth the time and effort to learn.
