Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We invite them to attend a FREE trial class to see if they like the class and it's instruction format.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The Head Instructor has trained in various martial arts for over 20 years in many locations and countries with many Masters. He has years of experience in teaching adults and children as well as those with disabilities.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We do not offer pricing up front but do offer monthly online specials at http://www.miamishoreskickboxing.com/current-specials
How did you get started teaching?
Once you acquire your first black belt teaching is part of your training. Once you start teaching and realize how you positively affect those around you it becomes automatic.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types including those who are over 65, those with emotional difficulties, those with physical limitations, developmental limitations, ADHD, ADD, Autism, dipilitating diseases and physical handicapped.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A boy of 9 years old came to our studio diagnosed with ADHD, Epilepsy and Cerebral Palsey about a year ago. When he came in he could barely walk or use his right hand. After 6 months he was running, climbing ladders, punching and kicking and learning to focus. We are very proud of him.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher can explain where they received their training and certification. Ask them which association they belong to and then follow up with the association. Watch or participate in a class. Look up their reviews on Google or Bing. Yelp is not very accurate.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
First decide what your priorities are. Losing weight, learning self defense, ect. Once you do that look up their website and facebook page and read the reviews and see what their postings are like. If you feel that the school fits in with your lifestyle then ask for a FREE class. Try out at least 3 schools so you have something to compare it to.
