Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My goal is to give the athlete the tools to get better and set proper expectations for the parents. Some athletes may just want to make their middle school team while others may want to be part of competitive AAU programs. My first lesson is always about evaluating the athlete and setting up a structured program.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been in and around the game of basketball most of my life. I worked for the athletic department while in college and learned first hand what it takes to complete in high level athletics. My oldest daughter played four years of college basketball and is now a student manager for the UNF womens team. I have been through the college recruiting process and I also have connections to high level trainers if you are a college players with professional aspirations.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have a couple of different "outdoor" options:
Single general session - Flat rate of $30 per session
Multiple (8) general sessions - $200/month
Gym sessions are more costly due to court rental and availability (held at The Well Activity Center in Apopka)
I prefer CashApp or PayPal.
How did you get started teaching?
I love the game of basketball and want to pass that on to the next generation. To me sports mirrors life and the lessons its teaches can be applied to multiple different areas.
What types of students have you worked with?
I typically work with kids (boys and girls) 8 yrs and older. It doesn't matter if they are a beginner or experienced player. I expect 3 things during my training sessions:
High Energy - Everything at game (full) speed
Max Effort - You cant quit when things get tough
Absolute Enthusiasm - Positive attitude at all time
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Its awesome to see a young person that you havent seen in years doing well. Whether they are still playing sports or not, striving for success in whatever they are doing.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a trainer that fits your needs and goals. If you are a beginner student, a trainer who primarily works elite atheles may not be a good match.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask yourself how much time you are willing to dedicate to getting better. Also, are your parents equally dedicated to making the financial & time investment required?
