Patrick M. says, "It is my pleasure to provide a testimonial on Coach Nick Savage’s behalf. Nick and I met over twenty years ago when we worked together on a significant GovCon IT program. During those days, I learned of Nick's passion for coaching, training, and mentoring athletes, focusing on strength & conditioning and various sports such as Track & Field, football, and basketball. We developed a friendship in the ensuing years. After observing Nick's passion and technique, my wife and I decided to entrust Nick with training of our three children, each with a different athletic focus. Nick’s passion for excellence and dedication to his athletes’ lives inspired me to join in his efforts, helping wherever he deemed necessary in whatever way I could. Not surprisingly throughout the years, athletes’ coach and trained by Nick have advanced through the ranks of Junior Olympics (winning at all levels), winning at the National level for younger athletes and some even joining the professional ranks. Incidentally, all our children went on to compete at the collegiate level in sports or sports journalism. Coach Nick possess every quality needed in a highly effective and supportive coach. He is knowledgeable, motivated, passionate, disciplined, dedicated to continuous improvement, and possesses an unflagging work ethic. Nick's energy and enthusiasm are contagious as he works to instill these same qualities in his assistant coaches and athletes, modeling how to excel athletically, academically with integrity. Nick has coached or trained in middle school, high school, college, and professional athletes. Coach Nick has consistently exceeded all our expectations and has been nothing short of extraordinary. His programs build confident, positive, influential leaders. I recommend Coach Nick without reservation. " Read more

Your Baseball Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do private baseball lessons cost?

Private baseball lessons cost $50 to $75 per 30-minute lesson and $80 to $140 per 1-hour lesson. The price depends on your location, the instructor's experience and reputation, the student's age, and whether the lesson includes extras like a video analysis of the player's performance.

Many coaches offer lower prices per lesson if you purchase a package that includes 6 or 10 lessons. The average package prices are:

  • 6 pack of 30-minute lessons: $270 – $420
  • 6 pack of 1-hour lessons: $450 – $720
  • 10 pack of 30-minute lessons: $400 – $600
  • 10 pack of 1-hour lessons: $700 – $1,100

Are private baseball lessons worth it?

Private baseball lessons may be worth it if your child currently plays the sport, loves it, and has expressed an interest in improving their skills and performance. Private lessons can help your child advance their skills, develop good habits, and avoid forming bad habits.

Motivation and a drive to improve are key factors in whether or not the lessons will actually help your child. It's important for your child to practice in between private lessons.

Children who receive private baseball lessons are usually more likely to advance to playing at higher levels than children who only receive group coaching during regular team practice. However private lessons don't guarantee your child will play collegiate or professional baseball.

What is the difference between private and semi-private baseball lessons?

In a private baseball lesson, the athlete trains one-on-one with an instructor who tailors the lesson specifically to their needs and skill level. In a semi-private lesson, two athletes work together with one instructor. Semi-private lessons, also called partner lessons, typically cost 10% to 20% less than private lessons. However, because the trainer's attention is divided between the two athletes, the athletes don't get the same level of individualized instruction as they would in a private lesson.

What age should you start pitching lessons?

Baseball instructors generally recommend that children start pitching lessons at around 8 to 12 years old, though there are no age requirements or exact rules. Learning fundamental pitching skills early on can help your child avoid developing bad habits that will be difficult for them to break later.

However, your child should not start taking pitching lessons until they are comfortable throwing the ball as well as catching the ball one-handed.
