About

I don't believe in limits. We need to set our sights higher and make goals and then work towards them. Chaos Works is all about eliminating limits. My entire career has been sewing and pattern making and all things fabric. I can introduce you to your new hobby or help you develop an underdeveloped skill in sewing, pattern making, fashion, home decor and beyond. All things fabric I can teach you.

I love sewing and making new things. Many people have expressed to me that the idea of sewing is overwhelming and difficult, but sewing itself is very easy, you can make it complex and challenging, but you can also produce a huge array of items with very basic knowledge. We just have to be willing to try, make mistakes and try again.

    Frequently asked questions

First I want to assess the students current skill set with sewing. This can be done through a conversation and through some sewing examples. If they are a beginner, then the steps toward lessons are a little simpler to lay out than with someone with moderate experience. Either way I will want to see how the student handles sewing on a sewing machine in person. Basic lessons will all include understanding sewing machine parts and trouble shooting, working with various materials, different fabric finishes and making several items of the students interests throughout the lessons.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Fashion Design from Pratt Institute. I manage the sewing department for a large advertising display company and have been sewing professionally for over 15 years.

Traveling to student for 1on1 lessons I charge $35 per hr lesson. If the student travels to my studio the price is $25 per hour lesson.
I have been teaching sewing for years as the manager of a sewing department in my full time work. Before that I taught anyone who wanted to learn from me or helped peers in college when they struggles with particular sewing frustrations. I have always loved learning and teaching the two come hand in hand. I learn something new every time I teach.
I have worked with students of all ages and abilites. Examples: College bound HS student with no sewing experience Adults with no previous experience sewing Mature and older adults who have sewn for years at home but never professionally Seasoned sewers in one industry wanting to expand into more areas Middle school age child interested in learning to sew but scared of sewing machine. Anyone can learn to sew if they have the interest and discipline to keep practicing.
Me and my family just bought our first house. We are moving this month. Very exciting times. I was struggling with something personally and my partner was incredibly supportive and understanding. He unintentionally reminded me how lucky I am to have him in my life.
For sewing, the teacher must be a good communicator and willing to say their instruction several ways. There is a lot going on with sewing and fabric goods so make sure you feel comfortable with your teacher to ask questions and even repeat questions from class to class.
What are you trying to achieve by growing your sewing skills? Do you want to alter your own clothes, make curtains for your house, make costumes for conventions. Knowing your goal means your teacher can help you get thre faster. How much do I want it? Lots of people like the idea of learning a new skill but to really follow through you have to have a strong enough interest to really go to the classes, pay for the classes, buy supplies for the projects you have in mind, and practice in your own time. It's an investment of your time and money so make sure you really want to follow through. You can probably find someone to show you how to thread a sewing machine for free, but to learn all that goes into sewing it will take a lot of trial and error and time or a good teacher to save you some of that frustration.
