Cam Brown Guitar Lessons
About
My teaching approach: Music has always been a big part of my life, even as a child. I was lucky to have parents that had great taste in music (The Beatles, Elvis, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, along with many more) But it wasn't until high school when I came into my own & really wanted to play guitar. I had a few guy friends show me a few chords but really taught myself how to play. I started out having an old crappy classical guitar and then started visiting Guitar stores & played around on all sorts of guitars! I then upgraded to an Ovation & saved up finally for my Martin acoustic which I still have & play today!! My influences are: Jimmy Paige (lead guitarist from Led Zeppelin), Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, Alanis Morisette, Sheryl Crow, there are SO many more! Hard question, haha! My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio or the student's home Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours: I teach lessons Monday (starting at 9am-7pm) thru Sunday (Sunday lessons are from 3pm-7pm). I try and work with my students as best as possible on days & times so weekends are available too. Guitar Techniques: Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Performance, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Scales and Exercises Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: We always start off VERY basic & easy. I teach all ages and all sizes and it's always elementary in the beginning. I make my students LOVE playing guitar & I make them good fast! We learn to play song(s) on the very first lesson too! Best part about my teaching style... It's always fun & informative & I love my students & their families! Parents and siblings are welcome to come and watch, I also teach 2 at a time as well. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: I teach lessons at my house (& have never advertised until now) and make sure my students feel comfortable and at home. Basically, starting with the first lesson, each student needs to bring their guitar and a 3-ring binder. If a student does not have a guitar I can help out in various ways. It's never a problem, so don't be discouraged if you think they may be to expensive or you have no idea even where to start looking; leave that to me! Each lesson is one hour but usually the 1st lesson is two. I will introduce you to the guitar, teaching all the parts, how to read & understand music, etc The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: One that has a teachable spirit and just tries! The saying practice makes perfect is no lie. They will leave with notes & papers to keep in their binder so they can read & practice on their own time. I make sure they understand what was taught after each lesson, no student will come to my house empy handed or lost. They always surprise me with their hidden talents & capabilities! It is so much fun but challenging as well so I try to always cheer & inspire my students for what is farther down the road!
