My training comes from the heart, life experience with violent encounters, and research on how the body and mind responds under the stress of violence. My primary focus is Self Defense my secondary focus is Martial Arts. UrbanX is on a mission teach the difference between the two and their benefits, both have value but are not the same,

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will have a brief interview to introduce my self, the instruction, learn about the potential student and discuss the expectations.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have held unarmed security positions for community organizations. I have mentored children in math and science, by using martial arts as a way to understand these disciplines. I have taught martial arts in elementary, High school, and college level. I work in Public schools and I have seen violence first hand. I keep myself up to date training with my instructors and attending Martial Arts and self defense seminars. I have taken security and personal protection courses. I am a certified Black Belt in Hapkido, Level 2 Keysi Fighting Method Instructor, Certified S.P.E.A.R Self Defense Coach. I still train in the above disciplines as well as Jeet Kune Do, Brazilian Jiujitsu, and Boxing

I usually discuss this with the student. I have pricing for class, private training, group private training, and Corprate/Small Business training
How did you get started teaching?
I studied Martial arts since the age of 13 and I have been teaching since 1998 while studying for my 1st Degree Black belt in Hapkido.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Know what you are looking for everyone has different reasons for wanting to study Martial Arts and self defense. understand the categories, Traditional Martial Arts, Combat Sports, Reality Based Self Defense, Violent Encounters. They all have value but they are not the same. Each category operates in a different environment and purpose
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why they want to train? Will they be commited? How do they see thier training benfiting them for the long term? Do I want to make this apart of my life?
