About
Hello, my name is Anna Velzo, I am a professional oboist, recording artist, and teacher who provides oboe instruction to individuals of all levels and ages. I am now offering private oboe lessons online!
I have been teaching oboe since 2006. In lessons and coachings, I help students to self-evaluate, regularly set realistic goals and objectives, design and implement methods to accomplish these goals, and ultimately become their own teachers. I love sharing my love of music and the oboe with students, and I tailor my approach for each individual to help inspire and encourage them on their musical journey, and learning the oboe. For students interested, I also teach reed making skills too!
In addition to teaching my private home studio, I teach at First Conservatory of Music in La Grange, IL, and I am an adjunct professor of oboe at DePaul University School of Music.
As an active freelancer in Chicago, I regularly perform with various groups, which have included the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Sinfonietta, and the Camerata Chicago Chamber Orchestra, among others. I am the oboist of the International Chamber Artists. I have and continue to be invovled in many innovative classical projects as well as collaborations with other artists from other genres, and enjoy working in communities in outreach concerts. While studying in New York, I founded and led the world music group, Anna and the Post Road Band. In 2010, I released my debut album Escale, which can be found on itunes, Amazon, Cdbaby, and Pandora.
