Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I would like to have a conversation with the new student about why they are interested in their activity and get to know them. Then I'll have a chance to see them in action doing what they do. Finally, we can both come up with plan together for them to achieve their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Growing up, I took part in high school cross country, basketball and baseball where I was captain for all three. I had scholarship offers for cross country and chose to play D1 college baseball instead. I've coached youth basketball and baseball over the past 20 years, before and after kids.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Each situation and player is different and based upon what they want to achieve and how much time they want to spend working toward their goals will effect the amount of money taking play here. In general, I would like to charge about $20 an hour and we can negotiate depending on the player, their personal needs and goals.
How did you get started teaching?
After falling in love with playing sports, I decided to take part in coaching for youth teams. Years passed, and I started coaching for my children's teams throughout their younger years as well. I have been away from coaching for a bit, and I've realized that I miss the passion, goals and improvement I've seen develop with younger students. I have falling in love with teaching as much as playing the sporr itself, if not more.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with youth from ages 10-20.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
An event that I am fond of would have to be teaching a friends 12 year old son on how to be a more effective pitcher and leader for his baseball team.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a coach who you can be comfortable with and someone you can relate to.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why they are playing the sport they are,
What specific goals they want to improve as a player and as a teammate,
What time frame are they in- for example, do they want to make a certain team by a certain grade or age level?
