About

I am a graduate of Milton Academy and a current second year student at the University of St Andrews pursuing a masters in English and Modern History. I am an excellent student and passionate about my subject areas. In high school, I headed the peer writing tutor program for my school, as well as tutoring students in English, French, and History. Over the past few years, I have volunteered as a teacher's assistant in a local elementary school and a Montessori school. I am also a passionate published and and award winning writer. In high school, I competed in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards, winning multiple gold and silver keys for short fiction and poetry. Since then, I have gone on to win publication in many other literary magazines journals, most recently appearing in the Birmingham Arts Journal. Above all, I love to learn, and to help imbue that love of learning in others!

Frequently asked questions

I like to start by getting to know a student, their likes and dislikes, their interests outside the realms of academia, their ideal methods of learning.  I don't believe in dictating how things should be done, or correcting every mistake as it gets made by telling a student what they should have written.  I prefer to ask a student questions, helping them look at a question or prompt in new ways, and guiding them towards a correct or improved answer.  I find it is much more satisfying for students if they are able to solve the problem themselves rather than have the correct answer given to them.  I try to make sure that students see me as approachable, kind, and fun to work with, someone they are comfortable asking questions of and learning from.

I graduated Milton Academy in 2018 with excellent grades and AP and SAT scores, multiple writing awards, and publication in both student and professional literary journals.  Since then I have been attending one of the most pristigeous universities in the United Kingdom, maintaining top grades in my chosen subjects of English and Modern History.  I have continued to volunteer as a teacher's assistant, learning and observing as well as interacting and teaching students.  I have also continued to pursue creative writing, winning several more literary awards.

My pricing is flexible and will depend on the needs of the student and the family.  I am committed to finding an arangement that best suits everyone.

I started teaching in high school when I volunteered in a local elementary school as a teacher's assistant.  After that I became an active peer tutor within my high school, eventually heading our peer writing tutor program.

I have worked with students ranging from elementary to high shcool age.  I have worked with students preparing essays for college applications and studying for AP exams and subject tests, as well as students in lower grades still mastering essay writing.  I have also worked with children with special needs.

I would encourage any student looking for help to think about the areas in which they would most like to improve.  Are they trying to streamline their writing and express their ideas more clearly, or are they a more hesitant writer, looking for some guidance on fleshing out their thoughts?  If they themselves have some idea of what kind of help they are looking for, it makes it much easier for a tutor to provide what they need!
