How did you get started teaching?
I first started teaching in high school. It came naturally. I have been teaching ever since.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with many diverse types of students including students ranging from age 10 to 85. I have taught many beginners, intermediate, advanced, college and professional players. In addition to teaching saxophone, I have also taught jazz improvistation to many other instruments (guitar, bass, trumpet, flute, clarinet, piano, tuba, etc.).
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure to choose a teacher who has a lot of experience, one who has a strong background in both teaching and performance and who has a proven track record. In the beginning, it is very important to develop the correct habits and techniques.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your goals? What kind of music do you like to or want to play? What is your learning style?
