Mike Abresch teaches Piano, Guitar, Flute, Saxophone, Clarinet, ukulele, and Oboe, and is a performing musician who has taught in Blaine for 18 years. He became a member of the Macalester College symphonic band at age 14, and became a member of the University of MN Jazz Ensemble I at age 17. At the U of M he majored in music performance, studying flute with David Eagle. He is also a three-time National Flute Association competition winner, and the creator of the website jazzimprov101.org, a uniquely effective beginning jazz improvisation method. I have taught piano for many years and enjoy working with students in elementary and secondary schools. I have degrees in music education and am active in local and state music teacher organizations (MMTA, MMTF, MMEA). I teach classical music, some jazz, and music theory and composition. I enjoy working with students of all ages and seeing their progress. I want them to learn about all types of music. When they learn good note-reading skills on the keyboard, they can use these skills to participate in choirs, bands, and orchestras in their schools....
