Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We assess each new student through observation and interaction with basic GYROTONIC® movements. Because each student is unique and each day is different, we apply a combination of intuition and hundreds of hours of training to help each person feel confident, fluid and free as they learn this therapeutic and fun system.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Hundreds of hours and certifications through the GYROTONIC® movement system.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes. $75-$85 for privates, which we recommend for new students. After that we have other pricing for duets, trios or quad group classes.
How did you get started teaching?
As a health and fitness writer and columnist, I started practicing Gyrotonic to enable me to write about it. I fell in love with the way it made my body feel. The movements -- which share principals with Tai Chi, yoga, dance, swimming and gymnatics -- lifted muscular tension, improved mobility in my joints; made me feel lighter and more connected throughout the day. I wanted to share this with others.
What types of students have you worked with?
We work with all ages and fitness levels at Embody. Our clients range in age from 15-95. We work with stroke survivors, people with prosthetic limbs and all sorts of injuries. Because Gyrotonic sessions can be customized to each person, we're able to work with a range of limitations and strengths.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of the most uplifting moments of late was watching my 95-year-old client show me how she could skip again, thanks to her work with the Gyrotonic method.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
If you feel comfortable, supported, appropriately challenged, you are with the right teacher. It's all about the relationship. If you don't feel comfortable with your teacher, that is not the right teacher for you, regardless of how many other people may love that teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are you looking for? What are your goals? How often can you take sessions? What is your budget?
