I am a Sports Performance Coach (USA Weightlifting Level 1) with a CrossFit Level 1 Certification and CPR/AED certified. I am a national level athlete, and currently compete in Olympic Weightlifting as a 64 kg athlete for Chopstick Barbell in the Twin Cities area. I am a CrossFit coach at Top Gun Crossfit located in Minneapolis.
My passion in sports, athletics, and human health and performance continues to push me as both an athlete and a coach. I offer customized programs utilizing a wide range of training methods and techniques to help people achieve their fitness goals. My objective is to help people feel stronger, faster, and more confident and capable in their bodies. I am here to support your health & fitness journey!
The part I most enjoy about my line of work is that I get to support people and watch them succeed. The majority of people I work with decided one day that they were ready for positive change. They were ready to put in the work to achieve their goals. It's the people who see the long-term goal, put their heads down, and work like hell to get there. That is what I enjoy about my work. To meet and experience these people is an absolute honor and privilege.
Melissa is very attentive and provides a lot of feedback. I appreciate her kindness and flexibility.
The first step is to schedule an intro session & consultation (free). This session will include a physical assessment, baseline workout, and a discussion regarding goals, programming, and next steps. This is also an opportunity for the client to ask questions or express any concerns he/she/they may have about the process.

Additional note: whether you decide to move forward with my services or not, I highly encourage you to look into the benefits of doing any type of physical activity or training. Preventative care is the most affordable method of ensuring a longer, healthier future. At the end of the day, it's all about giving your body a fighting chance, to go forth, and be great.
I started teaching in 2017 at a local Minneapolis CrossFit box. I came in knowing nothing, with no intentions other than to feel better in my body. Not only did CrossFit teach me to love my body (not because of aesthetics, but because of performance), but I learned how powerful a community can be. That is what inspires me. I want to create a space where people celebrate themselves, their accomplishments, and even their downfalls/weaknesses because that is what pushes us to improve.
A majority of my clients are people who work 9-5's, looking to improve their performance and functional strength & conditioning both inside and outside of the gym.
When I was coaching a recent Saturday morning class, the song "24K Magic" by Bruno Mars started playing and a woman started moving to the beat while lifting a heavy sandbag across the room. A few feet from her, a man started dancing while walking over to do dumbbell power cleans. It made me smile seeing how much fun they were having :)
When looking for a trainer, find someone who will critique and provide a lot of feedback, both positive and negative. To improve, we must embrace and understand our weaknesses. If your trainer provides very little feedback, they are not invested in your growth.
"What are your performance goals (not aesthetic goals)?"
By focusing on performance, your form and physique will naturally occur as a by-product of that effort.
"What kind of movements/activities do you enjoy doing?"
This is so important! It is difficult to stick with a program if you do not enjoy what you are doing. I want you to put a piece of yourself into the programming too!
