Rightfully Sewn is a charitable organization that creates jobs through the business of fashion. We offer an eight-week Seamstress Training Program for women to learn a meaningful trade that opens up the possibility of full-time, well-paying work.
To support our charitable mission, we offer public sewing and fashion designer classes, private sewing lessons, and small bath production services.
Classes are taught by the following:
Pamela Lucas, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, teaches advanced private lessons. She can instruct students on pattern-making, size chart development, grading, technical design, tailoring, and more. Pamela is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and has nearly 30 years of experience in the fashion industry and teaching.
Sarah Watts, Production and Operations Manager, teaches beginner and intermediate private lessons. She can instruct students on sewing techniques and terminology, the proper fit of garments, how to operate a variety of sewing equipment, and more. Sarah gradated from New Mexico State Univeristy with a degree in fashion design and merchandising. She has more than seven years of experience in the fashion industry and teaching.
We enjoy seeing the students we work with advance their knowledge and skill set. We are passionate about the sewing trade and fashion industry, so we also enjoy sharing our knowledge and expertise to allow students to pursue their interests and goals.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For our first lesson, we ask students to bring examples of their past sewing projects to get an idea of the student's sewing ability. Students can also share challenges they've faced in constructing textiles. After we assess the student's sewing ability, we will build a tailored lesson plan.
Rightfully Sewn's atelier is fully equipped with home and industrial sewing machinery, including cutting tables, home and industrial straight-stitch machines, home and industrial sergers, a blindstitch, and a coverstitch.
We invite students to bring their sewing machine from home if they have any questions about how to operate it or need help troubleshooting a problem.
