About

Hello Students,

In addition to my sports expertise which I explain below, I also write professional blogs, resumes, speeches, and newsletters for individuals and businesses. I also write books so contact me if you have any of these needs.

I am a qualified, and experienced basketball and baseball coach and trainer. First let me tell you about my basketball knowledge, experience and expertice and then I will share the same infomation regarding baseball.

I have been involved in basketball development for 30 years. I played college basketball at Limestone University in Gaffney, SC where I was a 4-year starter, and averaged 19.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and shot .590 from the field and .750 from the free throw line. During my junior season I led my team in scoring 18 times and in rebounding 20 times. I earned team Most Valuable Player and All-Southeast Region honors.

Since graduating from Limestone I have served as a graduate assistant coach for the South Carolina State University Men's basketball program, officiated Women's Junior College basketball in Mississippi, formed and coached my own AAU basketball program called the Meridian Cougars, and coached youth city league basketball for 10 years. In 2016, I was named youth city league Coach of the Year. During my city league coaching tenure, I won 3 city titles and finished runner up one season. In 2017, I coached Russell Christian Academy Boy's JV basketball team to a state title. Today I am still a high school basketball official in the triad. I have officiated high school basketball for the last 19 years and I have officiated 3 state championship games.

I have trained many youth both boys and girls who are currently playing high school basketball and excelling at it. Most notably Neal Swindell who is averaging 20 ppg as an 8th grader and J3 Swindell who was named to the All-State team in 2-A North Carolina basketball last season.

My unique selling promise is that if you hire me, I will train you to play and think about baskerball at an elite level because you will:

* Improve you skill set of shooting, dribbling, and scoring through contact which is what elite players do.

* You will understand what officials consider a foul increasing your basketball IQ.

* You will peform game-type plays executing cuts, screens and shots off screens as you will need to be able to do in a real game.

Baseball

For the last 11 years I have coached youth baseball from T-Ball, coaches pitch to travel ball and 8u to 15u youth city league. In 2016, I served as assistant coach in the Cal Ripken all-star 12u games in Petal, Mississippi. I understand how to work with kids just learning the game to those who have elite talent. I have umpired baseball and fast pitch softball at the youth and high school levels. I teach students how to pitch correctly, play any base, how to run bases, catch pop-flys on the infield and outfield and how to hit line drives back up the middle for base hits.

If your serious about improving your overall game with respect improving your agilty and foot speed, becomming a consistent shooter/hitter, a lock-down post or perimeter defender/serious base runner, and rebounder/outfielder then give me a call today at 336-443-5255.

Coach Swindell

I enjoy helping players improve their games by helping the understand the game. Because I am a basketball official and baseball/fast pitch softball umpire, I know the rules and I can help players learn how to play without committing unnecessary fouls or constantly striking out, thus keeping them on the floor and field.

We had a very positive experience with Winning Basketball! Coach Swindell is excellent at addressing individual player needs as they change throughout the season. He is adept at putting the athlete in game situations as well. The encouragement and follow up are also exceptional.

My daughter is a Cheerleader, played tennis and ran track. She wanted to play basketball so we scheduled privates with Dr. Swindell. He worked on her mechanics with controlling the ball, alignment the ball with the basket, shooting and creating space for her defender. Dr. Swindell also taught her to see the floor as well as knowing where her players are. There was nothing more exciting to see my daughter advance to the next level. Dr. Swindell has great Leadership and Determination. He promotes great Sportsmanship. What a great Motivational Coach. At the end of each practice Dr. Swindell would always ask my daughter what is your goal for the next practice. Dr. Swindell is truly missed. I’m in Tears..

    Frequently asked questions

I first find out what the student needs and what their goals are.

I then assess their speed, ball handling, shooting from mid range, free throw shooting, ability to make layups with both hands  and defensive foot speed.

    bat speed, throwing baseball angle

Based on what their goals and needs are, I develop a practice plan for them so that we maximize our time together and I give them homework to practice on until we meet again.

I have trained and coached youth basketball and baseball players from ages 6-22. I have coached basketball and baseball at the youth, jr high, high school and college level. I have also officiated both high school and junior college basketball. I have over 10 years of coaching/training in AAU basketball as well.

    Yes.

I charge $30 for 45 minutes of training.

I charge $40 for an hour of training.

My reputation as an elite coach, trainer and official helped me to get started. I also teach personal finance in the public schools so I understand how to teach children and how they learn best.

I have worked with elementary, junior high, high school and college age students. I work with both boys and girls. I can help you improve your skills whether you play point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward or center or whether you have never played before. I know every aspect of the game on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

A high school game I attended in which one of my trainees played spectacular defense the entire game. I was very proud of him due to the work he puts in with me every week.

My number one question if I was looking for a trainer would be, "What does my son or daughter need to work on to get more playing time or to become more valuable to the team they are on?"

The first thing the trainer should say is to become a better defender. I can tell you from experience, coached take players out of games not for missing shots, but for playing poor defense.

    1. What their personal goals are.

    2. What their learning style is.

    3. What their strengths and weaknesses are.
