About
Hello, my name Coach Jimmy Chavez. I have been an avid bowler since back when I could barely carry a 6 lbs ball. I have studied the game, put in countless hours of practice and learned as much as I have been able to. I’ve always wanted to share what I’ve learned. When it comes to either local or national levels of competition, I’ve competed in both. I am a United States Bowling Congress Silver level coach. I am even sponsored by the bowling retailer website bowlingball.com and have my own bowling YouTube channel, The Average Bowler. If you wish to learn more about the sport of bowling, I would be happy to assist you.
I love seeing my bowlers improve their skill level and the joy they experience as their scores improve.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I meet with new students and ask what their goals are and discuss how we can work together to achieve them. I then do an initial evaluation of skill level and then discuss strengths and weaknesses. From their we begin the process of making them a better bowler.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
- Years of experience competing on normal house and sport oil patterns.
- experience with working with bowlers of all skill levels. From beginners to collegiate and adult level bowlers.
- USBC certified Silver level coach
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Standard pricing is $40 per hour plus lane fees. For new clients, the initial session is $50 since it is 1 hour 15 min long as I do a comprehensive evaluation of the Bowler's current skill level.
A file is kept for each bowler to track and document progress as well as identifying strengths and weaknesses.
Video is used as a coaching tool through use of Coach’s Eye Pro program that allows for analysis of bowler form and technique. All video is erased at the conclusion of session.
How did you get started teaching?
I’ve been an avid bowler for years. I actually enjoy practicing and have had multiple people ask me for tips over the years. I figured the best thing to do was become officially certified and help coach others as best as I can.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide range of students. From children as young as 6 up to collegiate and adult bowlers. I even have experience working with wounded veteran service members participating in adaptive sports.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently supported and participated in Paralyzed Veterans of America National Up/Down tournament. This is where a team consists of three stand up bowlers and one wheelchair bound veteran. The tournament was a huge success and a lot of wounded veterans were able to really enjoy themselves.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who you can just tell loves the sport. Ask them questions about anything and see how they respond. If they show legitimate enthusiasm about helping to make you better, give them a chance. If they’re there only for a quick buck, you may need to find someone else.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What part of their game do they feel is their weakest area? How can that coach help to improve their skill set?
