What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First learn where they are at in terms of experience, confidence and knowledge then start at a point most suitable and comfortable.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Trained at a British drama school, DeLeon School of Performing Arts in Richmond, Surrey. It used to be a full time Performing Arts school but has now morphed into a foundation school.
I have worked in London, Los Angeles, Dublin, and new York as an actor, writer and director of theatre. In New York I have directed and performed in many Off-Broadway and Showcase productions. I am also the author of the Off-Broadway show "The International" which ran at The Cell Space and Playwrights Horizons Theatre in New York.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard is a very competitive $60 an hour with a two hour minimum. It's difficult to make real progress in just one hour.
How did you get started teaching?
My strength comes from having directed a lot of new and young actors professionally. I took some summer students with a company called Keys to Literacy last summer ('18) which was lots of fun. Working with young teenagers and young adults can be very rewarding and enriching.
What types of students have you worked with?
Adult beginners, early teenagers and experienced professionals.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My proudest moments are winning Best Director and Best Playwright in Origins Irish Theatre Festival in New York but also summer '19 I performed in a HBO TV mini-series with one of my favorite actors Mark Ruffalo. Its called "I Know This Much Is True".
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You need to feel comfortable with and respect your coach/teacher. Like a doctor or dentist. You should feel comfortble enough to confidently guide through the emotional process of acting.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What draws you to the subject. Do you feel it in your heart or is it more of a curiosity, an exploration. If you commit to it for a reasonable amount of time, you will undoubtedly learn something about yourself no matter the age.
