So You... teaches garment construction. As a person who worked for many years as a technical designer in the fashion industry i understand that learning to sew is not ony an important lifeskill, but a necessary skill for anyone who wants to attend fashion school or at the very least LOVES fashion! Learning to sew is fun and creative.
I try to be very flexible with my schedule, and well understand how schedules can change. typically there is bno penalty for changing schedules.
I Have the ability to supply fabric and use of sewing patterns when necessary - at no extra cost. i learned that obtaining fabric can be difficult and expensive and i do my best is supplying suitable fabrics for the varied and many projects my students complete. So You... also brings a sewing machine and all supplies if the students does not have one
I love the creative aspect of sewing. Having worked in the fashion industry i understand that learning to sew gives every new student the potential to be an entrepeneur, and that is a great feeling!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
i have found that students want to have their first project completed quickly and they want to use it. So You... teaches youth techniques that are suitabe for their first project but perfection of thse skills is not expected. At this stage we want the student to grow to LOVE sewing and we know the skills will be developed with practice over time. So being excited is key and if they continue to sew techniques will sure to follow.
For adult students we teach the process of sewing. we focus on learning how to use the instructions. we fully explain the process and attempt to teach suitabe skills for the garments they are creating.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been sewing since i was 8 years old. I prefer to sew clothing, but can sew quilts, crafts and home Dec items. I wprked in the fashion business as technbixal desugn for many years. Currently i teach in colleges, and many schools. We have 10 instructors that works with So You...
