Hi, I’m Justin Hernandez, a dedicated college athlete and baseball coach looking to help young athletes take their game to the next level. I believe that success in baseball, just like in life, comes from hard work, discipline, and passion for the game. I’m looking for kids who love baseball, are eager to learn, and are ready to give 100% effort every time they show up. I’m currently an infielder at Wilmington University, where I’m a sophomore, and I’ve been recognized as an All-County Shortstop in 2024. I was also part of the 2022 Hudson County Championship team, where I played a key role in helping my team win the title. With me, you’ll n

Your Baseball Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do private baseball lessons cost?

Private baseball lessons cost $50 to $75 per 30-minute lesson and $80 to $140 per 1-hour lesson. The price depends on your location, the instructor's experience and reputation, the student's age, and whether the lesson includes extras like a video analysis of the player's performance.

Many coaches offer lower prices per lesson if you purchase a package that includes 6 or 10 lessons. The average package prices are:

  • 6 pack of 30-minute lessons: $270 – $420
  • 6 pack of 1-hour lessons: $450 – $720
  • 10 pack of 30-minute lessons: $400 – $600
  • 10 pack of 1-hour lessons: $700 – $1,100

Are private baseball lessons worth it?

Private baseball lessons may be worth it if your child currently plays the sport, loves it, and has expressed an interest in improving their skills and performance. Private lessons can help your child advance their skills, develop good habits, and avoid forming bad habits.

Motivation and a drive to improve are key factors in whether or not the lessons will actually help your child. It's important for your child to practice in between private lessons.

Children who receive private baseball lessons are usually more likely to advance to playing at higher levels than children who only receive group coaching during regular team practice. However private lessons don't guarantee your child will play collegiate or professional baseball.

What is the difference between private and semi-private baseball lessons?

In a private baseball lesson, the athlete trains one-on-one with an instructor who tailors the lesson specifically to their needs and skill level. In a semi-private lesson, two athletes work together with one instructor. Semi-private lessons, also called partner lessons, typically cost 10% to 20% less than private lessons. However, because the trainer's attention is divided between the two athletes, the athletes don't get the same level of individualized instruction as they would in a private lesson.

What age should you start pitching lessons?

Baseball instructors generally recommend that children start pitching lessons at around 8 to 12 years old, though there are no age requirements or exact rules. Learning fundamental pitching skills early on can help your child avoid developing bad habits that will be difficult for them to break later.

However, your child should not start taking pitching lessons until they are comfortable throwing the ball as well as catching the ball one-handed.

He has made great progress with my son and his swing. He knows how to get him to pay attention. His throws are much better. I have been learning as well by watching. Javi is good man. My son and I are very happy we have found him.

An amazing, all-around good person who brings smiles to everyone he coaches. One thing that I found Christian excels at is working with each individual player to not only deepen their understanding of the game but also improve on their character and moral fiber. Christian has allowed my child to excel in all different areas of his life both on and off the field. Soccer is a challenging sport and I was amazed at the improvements that my son saw almost immediately after starting to work with Christian as a private instructor. I can only hope and pray that there are more coaches out there like Christian Alfano because then not only would children and young men and women learn the game of soccer or basketball but would become better citizens of their community, country, and world.
