About
All The Hints is the teaching music studio of Julian Hintz, a friendly, patient, informed and experienced teacher of Piano, Drums, Voice, and Composition, providing lessons in person and online.
Your lesson will be designed to meet your individual needs. No two students are the same, and no two lessons should be taught the same. All lesson plans will be developed to incorporate your goals, your personality, and your learning style.
I love to see you succeed! The moment you start to understand a concept or technical ability is the most rewarding aspect of teaching because it shows me how you learn. Once we have established an understanding about your goals, building a stronger relationship with each other, the learning becomes a journey that gets more interesting as we go.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If you are looking for a trial lesson to see if we are the correct fit, you will need to pay that lesson. If you decide to continue with one of the multiple lesson packages, the trial lesson will be included in the initial package payment. With some package puchases the applied discount will make that first lesson FREE!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a double major in Music Performance and Composition from CalArts. I have had training in classroom teaching through the SCAN after school programs in The Bronx, NY. I also have 2 years of teacher training in a cognitive approach to private music lessons with Sage Music.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The prices vary depending on your comitment to your lessons, and packages of 4, 8, or 12 lessons may be purchased at a discounted rate. You are encouraged to take regular weekly lessons along with daily practice for the best results. If you are the kind of person who requires a more flexible schedule, I will work with you to find the best possible solution, Including payment for one lesson at a time. I require at least 24 hours notice for the cancellation or change of a lesson to avoid being charged for the full lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I started out substitue teaching for other music teachers at various schools and private lesson situations. From there I discovered a deep passion of sharing my expertise with other music lovers in my community as well as the next generation of performers and composers.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all age ranges (3 to 63+ years old) with various levels of experience from absolute beninner to advance. I have experience working with children and adults with developmental disabilities as well as ADHD.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was assigned to teach a teenage boy with ADHD who wanted to play rock music while his mother wanted to make sure he learned how to read and play classical music. I was able to keep the boy's interests with various rock songs that he brought in to play as well as giving him the fundamentals needed to pay the classical music his mother wanted for him. After a year of laying the foundations he was able to take on the task of learning to play Beethoven's Fur Elise and he enjoyed the whole process!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The best thing you can do is take a trial lesson with the teacher, because a lot of what you will be looking for is chemistry. Any teacher can give you information, but how it is presented to you and how good practice habits are enforced is of the utmost importance. A good teacher should be friendly and couraging while consistently pointing out habits that need to be corrected.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about your goals. What music have you been listening to that inspires you? What performers or composers inspire you the most? What would you like to learn to play?
