Bonjour! My name is Jen and I've been tutoring high school and college French since 1992. I also have a BA in French, with a Latin minor. If you are struggling to learn any of the Romance languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and/or Latin) or want to go further ahead in your studies, I can help you! I can also teach you at a beginner's level if you have no previous experience. I offer a discounted package deal (1-2 hourly sessions per week, plus unlimited phone/text/video chat help during my daily "office hours," for $30 per language) Its fast and fun to learn more than one! I will take any student with enough proficiency in English to understand its vocabulary, grammar and syntax.
Foreign languages are more important than ever, especially with people who are weary from the worldwide lockdowns we've had and have the desire to travel!
I have been tutoring and teaching private lessons, while also studying the Romance languages myself. I find them especially useful for the artists/creative people of the world. I finesse my lessons individually to each student's needs and goals. I encourage use of the language(s) in "real life" situations, and not only textbook grammar and vocabulary. I've been known to break out into opera, or discuss painting techniques, if my students want to dive in a little deeper! Learning a new language or two does not have to be drudgery and boring!
The most rewarding part for me is when the little light bulbs inside my students' brains light up, as something new and/or difficult finally clicks!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first session is always complimentary and we discuss the following details. My first step is the most important; I find out your goals. How much do you want to learn and is there a time constraint? Then, I find out how much you already know and if you have any other foreign language experience. Once I know where you're coming from, we can discuss how I can best help you.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in French and use it on a daily basis, as much as possible.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
No. If someone wants the standard, weekly lesson, I charge $50. However, I add more lessons and help sessions to that price for exceptionally motivated students. The harder you work, the more you will get.
How did you get started teaching?
I began tutoring in high school, undergrad and grad school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've had the most, and the best, results with adults.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be honest with what you need and what you're willing to do.
