I am an Fashion Designer and Illustrator with a lot of passion and experience.
I have a good eye for fashion.
I am well versed in apparel design and have worked the industry for several years. I am skillful of designing garments, creating patterns, sewing, construction, technical specs, flat sketches, mood and trend boards, color palettes, etc. I am also skilled in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I graduated Summa *** Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fashion Design from the International Academy of Design & Technology. I have been designing garments and costumes since I was a young girl and created my own line Second Skin by S. Failla in 2000.
My Philosophy
To design clothing which uses bright colors to uplift the spirit, combine materials to create interest, and features unique details to add refinement. Utilizing bright colors regardless of the season of weather. Mixing fabrics such as denim with sweater knit or cotton with Lycra, mesh knit, or chiffon. Combining bright yarn, together with the dark colors of cotton Lycra. Featuring unique abstract details inspired by nature, including waving yarn, aplique, and painting. Designs with simple construction that create complex visual forms on the body. Garments with the ability to be transformed into multiple looks. Separates which mix and match within a collection. I have a flair for helping others develop the program best suited to them and want to help students push the envelope with the new creative styles and excellent sewing. I am passionate about creating a memorable experience that inspires students to return to My classes. I love work with people, love to share my knowledge and see students succeed in their goals. I believe I have much to offer in the way of experience, inspiration, and hard work.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Most of my students fashion design students.
I have students tell me their goals and learn their current abilities in order to develop a program to teach sewing skills from basic to advanced. I can also focus on teaching specific sewing skills based on the amount of time the student has available.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelors degree from International Academy Design and Technology, Las Vegas for fashion design.

How did you get started teaching?
I excelled in design and sewing at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Las Vegas and tutored many of my fellow students and continued teaching students post-graduation, and others.

All variety of the students: from children who liked to re-construct their old clothes to Fashion design students.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher with knowledge to share, patience to teach, and a passion for her work. I can offer all of these things.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should consider their interests and goals - whether sewing is for hobby or career. Aske questions about guidance for the steps they should take to have a career in fashion design or just to sew for fun.
