Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For yoga & meditation: I have an introductory phone call or Skype session to get a sense of the student's needs and see if we are a fit.
For coaching clients, I also have a free introductory call and interview process. Choosing a coach is a really personal decision and I want my clients to be absolutely committed to working with me. https://erinmariesickler.com/services/

How did you get started teaching?
I'd been giving instruction informally to friends and family for years. After I got my certification, I began teaching a community class at the Honest Weight Coop in Albany, NY for beginners. I like beginner classes because, as a teacher, they really challenge me to be thorough and precise explanations and to be able to meet students where they are.
What types of students have you worked with?
Men and women of all ages including seniors. For coaching, I specialize in helping people employ creative and mindfulness practices to meet life goals and achieve visions.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Ecstatic Dance--I try to get to this every week. It really lifts my mood and boosts my whole week.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Think of the experience as something you co-create together. I can't speak for all teachers, but I like when students come to a yoga or meditation class or let me know there is something specific they want to work on. It helps me help them--which is what I want. So don't be afraid to speak up. Also, test your limits. If you come with a whole bunch of "I can'ts" you'll stay where you are--this is equally true for yoga, meditation or coaching. Stay open. Challenge yourself and let your coach or teacher in on the challenge.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What they are hoping to get from the relationship. For private instruction, times and what you are willing to pay. Also, think creatively--maybe you can have a neighbor or 2 over to your house for private instruction to share the cost.
